Hear the game like never before. The 7H USB headset has an optimized soundscape for crystal clear high, low and mid-tones making it the ideal headset for the discerning audiophile as well as the serious gamer requiring the highest level of audio performance. The SteelSeries 7H USB headset features 50 mm drivers with a remarkably wide frequency response that delivers rich and detailed audio reproduction. This USB headset delivers a clean and clear soundscape from mood setting music to critical 3D positional sounds and alerts.
The rich and detailed sound that the 7H USB delivers is powered by 50 mm drivers for a superior soundscape. It's crucial in gaming that sounds are both clear and recognizable. The sounds of footsteps in an FPS game or a notice in a MMORPG game can be the difference between winning and losing. The soundscape for the 7H USB was precarious to achieve. In order to be both an awesome headset for gaming as well as a powerful headphone for music, applications and VoIP, the 7H USB was tested and perfected by gaming professionals and musicians to achieve great sound for all ears.
The SteelSeries 7H USB 12 channel equalizer has preset optimized profiles for gaming, music, and environmental settings. The USB provides 7.1 virtual surround and ensures gamers the exact same sound and settings no matter where they are in the world or at what computer they are playing. These features allow the user to personlize their settings according to what they’re listening to and where they’re listening to it.
The uni-directional microphone can be retracted and hidden in the left ear cup. This signature SteelSeries headset feature allows users to operate the headset in any type of environment, whether in your own home or out in public, without feeling ridiculous with a microphone projecting out of their cans.
Interchangeable Ear Cushions
It's important to have the option for interchangeable ear cushions, especially if it means communicating with your team during a tournament. The 7H comes equipped with leather ear cushions as well as cloth ear cushions that are interchangeable and can easily be swapped out for a completely different, hear-through or noise-cancelling audio experience. Regardless of what type of sound you prefer, both ear cushions surround the outside of your ear, making them comfortable to use.
The SteelSeries 7H USB features a durable, double braided, nylon cord with a built-in volume and microphone control. You can simply adjust sound levels manually instead of having to adjust it in your software settings.
It's no secret that concentration is essential for a great performance. Background noises can be disturbing when you're trying to aim at an opponent or complete a mission. The SteelSeries 7H USB headset is the solution you've been looking for with its optimized design and noise dampening leather ear cups. Drowning out the noise isn't the only way to maintain control.
Ideal for Travel
The ability to disassemble the 7H into 4 pieces (earcups, headband and cord) make it ideal for stashing in your bag and travel.

+ Retractable mic that is of great quality, almost too great.
+ Sleek Design that is collapsible
+ The padding on the headband and on the ear pieces is super soft
+ Durable, Flexible braided cord with extension and inline mute.
+ Earpieces rotate slightly for better fit
- Doesn't feel sturdy
- Slips off my head constantly
- Epic problems with the USB soundcard
Overall this is a great headset for gaming! Playing Elder Scrolls Online, I can tell which direction a snake or mob even if it's no on screen. NPC's will whisper behind me. It's great immersion. It's comfy even for hours of gameplay. If you're looking for noise cancellation, this isn't your device, but I like that. I work on an ambulance, and I slept with these things on, but I'm also use to sleeping to the hum of a diesel, so let that speak to their comfort. I am a petite female, and I find these things slowly slipping off the back of my head constantly. How the ear pieces swivel is great for their fit and I can comfortably have one earpiece off.
The USB soundcard is useless for me. My friends on Skype will constantly complain of beeping. A Google search will tell you this is common with USB headsets, to download specific drivers that don't exist anymore. The latest SteelSeries driver's didn't even have the option that supposedly fixes this issue. With the extension that came with this item, it comfortably reaches my rear jacks, and I can disconnect them from the extension to take them with me. As far as their collapsability, I haven't tried it yet.Read more ›
The MIC itself is very bad, when hooked up to the sound card directly it sounds like someone is crackling a piece of paper right at the MIC, the static is just horrible. When hooked up to USB it is even worse. On this particular set that I received, the audio also cut out on the mic at random times on both the soundcard and the usb hookup.
I have small ears and the ear cups BARELY cover them. Once these are placed on your head they can be compared to a giant vice grip, they are super tight, tons of pressure.
This is a very poorly created product that Steelseries has released, stay FAR away from this headset. My logitech 3 dollar USB desktop mic sounds flawless compared to these.
So cross these off your list as potential candidates in your research, $150 for such low quality is just laughable.
I own a set of Bose that I used to switch back and forth for music and gaming, but the 7H USB sound so good for music that I rarely pull out the Bose anymore. The highs, mids and lows are a perfect blend. Keep in mind I use the USB version, which I'm using the USB 7.1 soundcard dongle that comes with the headset. When plugged in using this USB dongle, it doesn't matter what soundcard you have in your system, as it only uses the USB soundcard located in the dongle.
I play FPS games, where the footsteps and gunfire are very important for player position identification, and this headset is so good it's almost like cheating. I've owned a multitude of "high end" headsets in the past and these are by far the best that I have used.
The only comment I can say about the people that have had problems with the quality of the headset are that they either abused them or they got a "lemon". Which in the case of the latter, they are a great company when it comes to backing up their products. They have no problem replacing their product when it is an issue with a defect. For those that say the sound quality isn't very good, they either got a defective headset or they are full of it.
Looking forward to many more years with these 7H USB's!!!!!
What really bothers me is that this was almost the exact same problem I had with the steel series headphones I had before these. Before this I had the 4H usb model and again, while they worked they sounded great, but something went wrong with the volume control on that one too, that time causing the volume up button to somehow become stuck so the sound would randomly just leap up to max at any given moment. Nothing was touching the button and it wasn't pressed down or stuck at all, something was just broken or loose inside the control somehow and these little volume control boxes can't be opened without breaking them so there's not a thing you can do about it when this happens.
I take very good care of my electronics and in neither case was anything dropped or crushed or touched by anyone other than myself so this is not something that I am causing, and looking through some of these reviews it looks like it's not just me that this is happening to. It's unfortunate, because I really did enjoy both sets of headphones while they functioned, but I won't be wasting any more money on any more Steel Series products if I just have to keep getting a replacement every 6-12 months.
