I bought refurbished / recertified, which comes rolled up in a plastic wrap with no retail stuff. No imperfections so far, and it smells like new.

I chose the Mass mainly because of the much lower price of the refurb, and also because I limit myself to brands that directly support professional gamers such as Steelseries. The size is standard for a gaming mat: enough for 1080p on the desktop, and best for medium to high sensitivity in first person games. It also makes for a good value point priced below the larger mats and higher quality mats and hard surfaces. The Steelseries surfaces, in general, are more square than Razer surfaces, which means that a Steelseries surface might not fit in a laptop sleeve that the similar sized Razer can, but the thickness of the Mass and Heavy would suggest they are better at returning to flat after being tossed in a larger bag. The thickness was not a necessity for me but I think it is promising for travel use. So far it does not seem to be any more rigid on a flat surface than my previous mat, a Goliathus Speed. The foam does not depress much from hand pressure so it has no shortcomings there.

This is my first QCK. Compared to my Goliathus Speed, the surface of the Mass is rougher to the touch. If your wrist drags on the mat, you will notice the roughness, but there is very little friction with mouse feet when moving slowly, or from a standstill, even for a heavier mouse. The above makes this mat good for small precision movements, especially for high sensitivity users, acceleration users, wireless users, and perhaps artists. Although, I am none of the above.

I am not sure, but I believe the Mass and Heavy surfaces are meant to be more water resistant than others. It is extremely easy to clean with a damp to dry sponge. And it is quite necessary because the surface is a dust magnet.

As expected from a Steelseries surface, the tracking is perfect for both my optical Salmosa and laser Razer Tron mice. At low DPI, the sensor was the limiting factor before the mat. Tracking is not disrupted over the logo in the corner. The lift off distance of the Mass and Goliathus are similar, but the Salmosa, with its huge lift off distance, seems to track fully all the way to the top on the rougher Mass, as opposed to tapering off during lift on the finer Goliathus. The movement during lift is more predictable but it is more important to lift the mouse as fast as possible when needed. I would say that users who often pick up their mice will find this to be the biggest difference between the mats.

Finally the bottom rubber is quite impressive. It has a bit of reflective shine, presumably helping to distinguish up from down in a dark LAN center. The Mass also holds the table much better than the Goliathus, and the Mass stays put over time unlike the Goliathus. I wonder if that is helped by the thickness.

Nice Size, Low Friction

I was looking to replace my generic freebie round mouse pad I've been using for awhile now. I have a round freebie one that I use at work as well but the one at work is the perfect size for my 19" monitors. At home I have a 24-25" widescreen. The pad I have at home is a little too small and tends to move around a bit. I purchased this one due to it's size and material thickness. I wanted one thicker than the round one that moves around on me. This one is heavy enough to stay in place and almost the perfect size. It's possible that it would work just as well if it was a little smaller. I use a computer all day at work and then again at home so I'm using a mouse a lot. I've found that I can't go without a fabric-top mouse pad.

The issue I have with this one is that its fabric seems to be a bit too "slick" compared to my other pads. Not by much...might not even be noticeable by touch but I notice that when double-clicking the cursor slides ever so slightly which keeps the double click from working all the time. I find myself letting my pinky/thumb slide on the mouse pad to add a little grip to keep this from occurring. It may just be that it needs a little "break-in" period. The other pads get enough use that they are probably "worn down" to some degree and it may just take some getting use to.

It did come in a plastic tube as others have noted. I left a couple of books on it for two days and it's laying flat now...The rubber smell can get a bit nauseating...I may have to look into a way of deodorizing it if it persists. I've only owned it for a week.

I would have no reserves about recommending this product to others who are looking for a larger/heavier mouse pad as long as they not the precautions outlined above.

After owning this for a while now I thought I would add some details:
The smell did not persist and all but vanished after about a week. One thing I notices which may have ended up requiring me to purchase another mouse...I own the CM Sentinel mouse. This mouse began exhibiting some strange behavior while being operated on this mouse pad. I would randomly lose all diagonal cursor motion. The mouse would temporarily only allow horizontal and vertical motions. I would find myself unconsciously lifting my mouse up and shaking it a few times which seemed to temporarily correct the issue. I have not determined the exact cause but I found that it could be due to this mouse not functioning properly on an all black surface. If this is the cause perhaps a black mouse pad with some sort of graphics on it could help. I opted to simply purchase another mouse. The same problem has not been experienced with the new mouse using the same software and mouse pad. I just thought it was worth mentioning...

I suffer a little bit from pain in the ulnar bones where they meet the wrist. This can cause some discomfort when gaming (I use a track ball for work but a mouse for gaming) so a mat like this is great. It gives just that little bit of padding to make resting on the desk more pleasant and avoids the need for those evil wrist pads you see some people trying.

Large size too to give options. Surface is uniform and my Logitech G900 tracks beautifully on it. The tiny bit of ‘stick’ the soft surface generates compared to a hard surface suits my gaming style. Much prefer it to a hard pad or bare desk.

Absolutely love it and recommend.

The QcK heavy/mass has a control surface; rougher than the silky smooth QcK.

The Mass is a big mat and a good size even for a big desk at medium sensitivity, higher and you should considee the Qck+.

The one downside is how long it takes to get flat, the first day or two is terrible, mine took week to get relatively flat, and a few months to iron out the micro wrinkles I felt across the surface. Steel Series really need to pack these flat, rolling them just doesn't work with the Mass/Heavy, as it did with the Qck/Qck+.

This is a great mousepad and the extra thickness really helped as my desk at the time was quite uneven. Super smooth and easy to use. Never had any problems with tracking or catching on anything. Only thing is after a couple of years of use there is some slight wear on one side where I rest my wrist, but this is just some slight discolouration and a slightly rougher surface, but still usable. I will probably get another when this one wears down more. Also very easy to clean and holds its shape well

It's amazing how much one of these can change the feel and accuracy of a mouse. I use this with a Logitech MX Master 2S and it's like I'm using a different mouse. The 2S is a heavy mouse which I couldn't really comfortably use for gaming, but with this mousepad it just glides like a feather. I got the thicker option of the mousepad and I'm very happy with it.
