This is a review for Rival 500.

Most of the review is a comparison to the Razor Naga which I've been using as my main gaming mouse prior to receiving the Rival 500.

The mouse is definitely more ergonomic. Like how the palm rest is large with your palm laying comfortably on it when used. This is from a perspective of someone who have relatively normal sized hands. If you have giant man-sized hands it may also work well also as you'll feel less cramped when using. For those with slender hands it may be a bit off putting with the excess surface area.

Love how all buttons are clickable via finger/thumb sliding instead of using the tip and how majority of the buttons are not dedicated to thumb button. On my Razor Naga, 12 buttons are accessed via the thumb, which although sufficient, once you get used to it, is not as fast as rival 500 as there's a nice distribution of buttons for each finger/thumb:

Thumb = 6 buttons
Index = 3 buttons
Middle = 2 buttons plus scroll wheel (Tip: lower button can be used on lower section of thumb and do not need to slide down to press)
Ring: 2 buttons

Would be nice if the pinky had one dedicated button so it isn't left hanging (Maybe next version?). As mentioned before, there are slight sliding movements of your thumb/fingers and you do not need to readjust your grip and/or bend your fingers/thumb and press with the tip each time which will save at least half a second giving you a competitive edge.

There's a locking mechanism which locks the two bottom buttons for when you want to casually rest your thumb when not playing video games, or when playing and plan not to use those buttons and rather have it for a thumb rest.

Learning curve is pretty easy.

This is a great mouse. I would argue that its shape is the best in mouse history. I love the functionality, materials, and precision. I like it so much, in-fact, that I've now purchased two of them. The only issue is that reliability isn't great over time. After owning my first Rival 300 for over a year, its wheel began behaving erratically, and double left clicking. In this regard Logitech is likely a better option, but I don't care for their designs.

This mouse has a fantastic feature set marred by a mediocre execution and a few reliability problems. Generally, this mouse compares to the Logitech G502. Both are mid-button count and mid-size mice with programming and great hardware. While the 500 has a few too many buttons for my taste, the only other options in the Rival line have too few buttons ('fps' mouse) or too many buttons ('mmo' mouse). I find the mouse slightly too bulky on top when compared to the sleeker G502. It is workable but not nearly as comfortable. The physical 'bottom button' lockout works OK but is not sturdy enough to really turn the bottom buttons into a thumb rest. I'd stop short of calling this feature a gimmick, but it isn't executed well. Overall it feels slightly cheaper than the R700 or the G502+ mice. The primary switches are very good, but some of the secondary (and especially tertiary) buttons are very hard and unresponsive.

The good:
Good sensor
Decent mechanical actuation
Easy and functional software
Good weight, if slightly on the heavier side

The bad:
Feels slightly lower quality than it should at its price range
Imperfect ergonomics
One or two extra buttons for most applications, with the rear-most 'loop over' button being ergonomically poorly situated

The ugly:
Software/mouse locks up every few hours and stops accepting input, only option is to unplug and replug

Outside the software issues which make it completely unreliable for me - my problem with this mouse is its value. It does not compare to the build quality and ergonomics of even other Steelseries mice. With the software bug quashed ('working on it' for several months doesn't give great hope) and an iterative improvement on the basic concept, this would be an amazing mouse.

It took me a while to adjust to this mouse's weight, but now I'm really liking it. The color customization is top-notch, just like with my SteelSeries keyboard. I really like the grip on this mouse, and also the vibration patterns you can set. I originally looked at the vibration as just a check box feature, but I map my alternative keys to quickly rumble so I know for sure I'm hitting them in the rare times I do. Very handy.

Being able to detach the mouse cable is also a big plus in my book. It comes with a long cable, and short cable. I leave the long cable plugged into my desktop, and bring the shorter cable with me in my laptop bag. My laptop runs Xubuntu, and the mouse (with my color and rumble settings) is fully compatible. It just works too, plug it in to the laptop and I'm good to go.

The OLED screen... that is my one downside with this mouse. i don't play CS, so there's really not much of a need for this. Even if I did play it, I'm not sure I'd be looking at my mouse for that information. It's cool to show to friends though, and the animation (even if it is choppy) is a nice bonus.
