Amato offers a somewhat ‘noirish’ tale, and the subplot involving Steele’s family has a fair amount of emotional weight. Suddenly thrust into the role of guardian of her nephew Chase after the death of her brother, she faced with considerably higher stakes. A threatening phone call is puts her on edge; can she protect her family while she pursues a psychopath?
Lovers of police procedural novels should enjoy this work by Kimberly Amato. The character, Jasmine Steele, is being dogged by the media, is at odds with the mayor’s office, and is struggling to adjust to the role of ‘parent’ – what a life! Amato relies on well-used tropes of the genre. At times, the narrative appears sluggish, but you get the sense that Steele is being pushed to her limit. The story finds firm footing in the third act. As book 1 in The Jasmine Steele Mystery series, Amato gives the reader compelling reasons to revisit the character to see what else is in store for the titular character.
And now she has received a threatening telephone call that taunts her, and 'her son'. A psychopathic killer is brutally murdering women to get to Jazz. And she is walking right into his trap.
Will she get him before he manages to take away what little she has left? This is a real nail biter story that takes us through the streets of New York and gives us a glimpse into the tragic life of a tough cop. It is quite typical, like what you see on TV. But the story is nothing short of thrilling. I could not put this book down! If you love mystery novels, then this one is a must read!
Though Jasmine is a tough woman on the surface, she is actually quite vulnerable as she struggles to come to terms with her new role as Chase’s mother. She also needs Frankie much more than she is willing to admit, as she has trouble with relationships. Jazz’s world becomes even more chaotic when she receives a frightening phone call indicating that she and Chase are in danger and that a killer is on the loose. Now Jazz has to try to find out who is threatening them before its too late.
Steele Intent is in turns suspenseful, humorous and terrifying, and Jazz is an incredibly relatable protagonist. She is brave but awkward, loving but struggles with commitment, and guzzles excessive quantities of coffee. I would gladly read more books in the Jasmine Steele Mystery Series.
The thing I loved about Steele Intent (The Jasmine Steele Mystery Series Book 1) was that it was an edge of your seat mystery. The justice is served and the puzzle is solved in a rather interesting way. This is such a good mystery.
Our main character is Jasmine. When her life goes up in flames she has a lot to deal with. Her brother is killed in a terrible car crash, she has to take care of her nephew chase. Then she loses her partner Frankie. So many bad things at once.
Now she receives a threatening phone call that taught her. It is from a psychopathic serial killer, who is brutally murdering women. Just to get at jasmine.
Will she solve the case? Will she get away from him? Well, you gotta read the book to find out. This is a real nail bitter story. Which takes us through the streets of New York.
I really enjoyed this story.
Kimberly Amato weaves a great story here and the writing is quite good as well - highly recommended.
The worst sound in the world for her is silence. I 'm trying to raise my nephew, he is more an adult than I am. I just wanted to be the aunt, who came over to play. String of murders. She is drawn in, and the stakes are high, she doesn't want to lose anyone else. Can she win, this obsession she has, or will he get away. Good plot, with family, and friends, which makes you want to know more about them, hopefully in the next book in this series.
