Just as good as the first one, with the potential to be better

The game came in great condition and arrived on time-No complaints there. As for the gameplay, I have yet to finish it, but it's surprisingly better than I would have thought, considering that it takes place in a timeline where Okabe failed to save Kurisu. I had my doubts with the premise, but they were quickly assuaged once I started to play. No spoilers here, just play the game. You won't regret getting it. (Ya know, as long as you've played the first game or watched the anime)

Take Another Leap Through Steins;Gate!

Steins;Gate is an anime I cherish greatly. To my surprise, I ended up enjoying the original visual novel even better! It was no surprise that I had to pick it up the sequel day 1, but was it worth the wait?

Yes.

It's not perfect, but it's an emotional continuation of how the end of the first game came to be. I want to say so much, but I'll collect my most non-spoiler words here. Okabe is a completely different person now and sort of a wreck (as obvious by the cover art). As I played through my first few hours of the game, the phrase that kept coming to mind was "PTSD: The Game". It is not a comedic as the first game, but I realized I enjoyed it because of the growth I started to see in each character. Like the first game, the mysteries are intriguing and keep you invested every time you think you know what's going to happen but surprises you. The writing is exceptional, and if anything it is most like a great book you can't put down.

One thing that threw me off was it switching perspective into several characters back and forth throughout the story. This gives us an insight to the stories complex story line that would've been difficult if not impossible without heavily convincing elements of Okabe's plot-line. After a while, I appreciated the fresh format and it reminded me of how Game of Thrones does the same with its characters with each chapter.

The music isn't as great as the first game, but as it continued the theme grew on me. Steins;Gate was a perfect visual novel in my opinion in nearly every regard, so I didn't want my expectations to be too high. It's serviceable to the story and maintains the emotional appeal of each scene. Once again, the voice actors are top notch as well. Overall, the sound/music is above most visual novels.

I've heard some people online say you can skip Steins;Gate and still enjoy this game, but like the Virtue's Last Reward series, DO NOT SKIP THE FIRST GAME/ANIME. Sure you "can" play this one without the original game's narrative in your mind, but this game would seem like a confusing mess at times. Do yourself a service and watch/play the original first.

Overall, if you liked the original and sci-fi/time-travel stories, this should be on your "must play" list. It continues to ask intriguing questions and tells a somber yet exciting adventure of the "what if" we always fear we won't have to go through. Its shortcomings don't detour from what is a top-notch, remarkable written sequel.

A highly recommended Vita game! (also available on PS4)

This game doesnt pick up where the first one ended. Instead you go through the first failure of saving Kurisu Where Rintaro is quite shaken and having ptsd. Darker story for sure. I really like the first game and this one is not as good as the previous one. Still it's enjoyable and I hope it will reveal more about what happened after the first game ended.

Steins;gate 0 is pretty much a sequel to the original steins;gate. It explores possible alternate outcomes and gives us a look at what could have been if things went wrong. It's a decent visual novel with good characters but compared to the stellar writing if the original it just feels bland and predictable. Even with all its flaws it's still entertaining and has some great moments that really stand out so if you are a fan of the original steins;gate I recommend it.

This is a great sequel/prequel to my favorite visual novel. Like Steins;Gate before it, this is a visual novel with great writing and strong characters. It still has a lot of funny moments, but Okabe is a much more dour character after his failure to change the past, and the tone overall is much more bleak than before. Anyone who enjoyed the first game or the anime will find a lot to love in this installment.
