Their relationship begins as a fleeting one night stand that neither can forget, and as fate brings them back together, the author weaves a strong and mature story that steadily develops into a far deeper connection than either character ever expected. I felt the author did a wonderful job of portraying both characters in their respective stages of life, and it flowed well as they grew and got to know one another. They learn to trust and love one another in the face of incredible odds, and deal with their hiccups together for the most part. I can't say this book is one of my favorites, but that's mostly because I tend to prefer books with some action in them, so it's no reflection on the author or her writing.
Annoying in it's attempt to convince the reader that he is a good guy who just likes to be in control, and just "has to be himself". (So lucky that he found a woman dumb and inexperienced enough to let him.)
I don't enjoy books of nothing but gratuitous sex, where one person is constantly taking advantage of (abusing) another.
It felt shallow in characterization and motivation. Carley was particularly annoying with her repetitive questions about their fling, her constant anxiety about their sex life and her attempts at being independent when she clearly wasn't.
And Marcus wasn't much better except the most I got from him was that he was a caricature of several types of men: alpha, teacher, Dom, and voyeur. I'm not saying a man can't have many different traits, but these all felt as if they were competing for top billing. And none of them came out on top.
And the ending? Please. After all that rigamarole, that's how it ends? Oh, okay. No big deal. We'll just ignore all the threats we've made to the both of you. Have a great life. Really?
Marcus is a dominant and introduces Carley to the lifestyle. Any dom traits Marcus has he got from his father. Randall is a micro-managing control freak who uses his money to control everyone around him. Marcus’ father is a secondary character but his presence and disdain permeate the story. It helps explain many of Marcus and Carley’s actions. They are both held so tightly under his thumb that sneaking around seems to be a necessity to live. Sex is about the only part of his life where Marcus can truly dominate. He also teaches Carly about gaining control by giving it up. There is some light BDSM, but nothing extreme.
This was definitely an interesting read. There were so many themes. He is step-brother. He is also her boss. He is also her one night stand she had a while ago. As you can see they met a while ago as a one night stand, obviously doing it without names and know who each other were. When they meet again, she is his personal assistant. She is not good at her job because she was forced to do this by his father, her step-father. But they can't fight off this sexual tension that oozes when the two are together. They have had a taste of one another. He needs this job to work out for him because of his past. He was kicked out of his father's company because he screwed up in the past. Now he is here to get ready to take over his dad's company, but only if he proves himself to his father. So much is on the line if they get together. You should definitely read this! Despite there are so many themes that could make this book seem predictable, I feel like it is definitely a different book. Give this book a try!
