"Enlightenment Now: The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism, and Progress"
Is the world really falling apart? Is the ideal of progress obsolete? This is Taylor's story. She had suffered the tragic loss of her husband 3 years prior and she is trying to start over. She believes she is making progress. One day she a man from her past, Seth, comes back into her life. He was once her mentor and close friend. The thing is, just when Taylor believes she has everything together is exactly when things fall apart.
I don't want to give too much away but I really felt for each of the characters. There was loss, suffering, guilt, forgiveness, love and hope. God takes us all on a journey and oftentimes we are not prepared to deal with what can happen. Life is unpredictable and messy but it is when we get through it and look back we see that we were surrounded by amazing people who care. Sometimes they are perfect strangers like the members of the Crisis Team or friends and family. This book moved me and I found myself really drawn in to the stories of each of the characters. I definitely recommend this book and all of Candace Calvert's books.
As Taylor approaches the third anniversary of her grief, her beloved dog Hooper nears death, a co-worker whispers cruel insinuations regarding her husband's fatal accident, and Dr. Rob Halston oversteps his supposedly rigid boundaries; forcing Taylor's carefully constructed environment to forcefully implode. Anger, bitterness, jealousy and grief collide in "sorrow's house" once more. despite a seed of love that has been quietly planted. Will Taylor finally allow God to put the broken pieces of her life back into place, in His time and in His way or has her final aspiration, to "fall in love again" been lost forever?
"Step by Step" is beautifully written, with a story that flows as naturally as a mountain stream; winding, curving, cascading, ultimately arriving at its natural destination; a widening river of loveliness and truth. Suffocating grief is fought and conquered so realistically, that coupled with its underlying message of faith, hope and love, this outstanding book has earned a five star accolade!
I am grateful to the author for providing an advance copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
The theme for this book, for me, was about healing and moving on. Of course, it cannot be achieved without God's grace. With the vivid imagery, I felt like I was on that beach with Seth and Taylor sitting around that illegal campfire. But we all know they were tending to it to assure it would not get out of control.
Candace has such a knack for putting you in the scenes of where her books are based. Call it a virtual vacation of somewhere you may not be able to travel to. The trial and tribulations the characters go through are believable and of every day nature. You can not help but to feel bad for the characters as they suffer through trials and tribulations, and cheer for them when they succeed.
I have been a paramedic for the past twenty years, and something that drives me crazy is the inaccuracies in the medical scenes. Candace is spot on with how 'real medicine' is performed. And she is able to do that with her extensive experience as a registered nurse. I love how she mixes in the medical scenes with the overall theme of the story.
I absolutely can not wait to read the next installment for this series. If you are looking for a good inspirational book that delves into everyday struggles, look no further, you have found it. Candace is truly a master of her craft and I am blessed to read her books. Not only do they entertain, but also give you inspiration. It is easy to forget about God's grace, until you read one of Candace's books.
Thank you for sharing your talent with us and I am eagerly awaiting your next book. God Bless!!!
