I had high hopes for this book as I have read a few of Bella Jewel's books in the past. But.....she could not keep the father's name right; it went from Jack to Jake then back to Jack several times. And there are several errors in this book which I usually don't complain about in books but these authors have editors so maybe they need new ones. I just couldn't grasp what parent lets their 19-year-old daughter drink and get drunk and they are okay with it. The whole story is farfetched to me.

So I haven't had any interest in the stepbrother invasion but I knew I wanted to read Jewel's book. Unfortunately, it was a miss.

Okay I'm just going to say it - Blade was a f**ktard and Aria was a doormat.

I'm so disappointed because it started out so good. Jewel had me in tears with Aria's back story and I liked the few glimpses into Blade and Aria's shared past. Plus, Jewel has a natural gift of keeping you hooked on every word start to finish even if you don't like what you're reading. I just couldn't put it down.

Aria's mom, Nancy, married a good man named Jack. Jack has three grown sons who live with or near their mother so they have never met Nancy or Aria. So they decided everyone should spend a month at Jack's lake house so everyone can get to know each other. Turns out Jack's oldest son is none other than Blade and he's already well-acquainted with Aria. They had a no-names, cherry-popping weekend of fun a year ago. Aria never got over it.

Instead of fessing up that they know each other and having a laugh about it they keep it a secret and try to convince themselves it wasn't meant to be. Let the games begin.

Blade is a confusing mess. He's hot and cold and Aria was happy to take him any time he was hot. But then she was in tears every time he was cold. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. I never warmed up to Blade, I wanted Aria to grow a pair and tell him to get lost.

I think my biggest issue with this book was Jewel was trying to force the shame between Aria and Blade when there's no shame to be had. This book is not taboo. The characters are grown, they are not blood-related, and they were not raised together.

There was an ewww moment and a that-so-would-not-happen-in-real-life moment (both involving Peyton).

I have read so many of these stepbrother books, so its getting hard to hold my interest. I just didn't care for this. First of all this was not taboo they were not raised together she was going to college. In fact I had to wonder what her mother was thinking letting all of them vacation together in the same house. I could not stand Aria she was a complete idiot. It seemed that Bladen treated her like crap and she than let him feel her up in the hallway like she had no self respect. I hated her best friend Melanie it seemed I cringed every time she spoke. I thought her mom was completely clueless. I couldn't understand letting your daughter get drunk in a place she wasn't familiar and with people she didn't no. I have read many Bella Jewel books I don't remember her writing about characters so young. So maybe that was why I just didn't care for this. It was very hard to read a book and not really care for any character. I just didn't care for this book, but I love this writer.

I typically steer clear of Step Brother romances, mainly because it seems like that’s what everyone is writing about and I like original storylines. I choose to read Step-Lover because for the most part, I’m a fan of Bella Jewel.

First, the step-brother part was believable and I did enjoy the storyline. The first 55% of the book was around 4.5 stars for me, but sadly the author then went in another direction that I didn’t care for and I ended up disliking the hero. For me, the second half of the book was around 1.5 stars.

Heroine’s mother marries the hero’s father. Aria’s father and sister die in a tragic car accident. Years later Aria’s mother marries a man who has three sons. When these son’s arrive, Aria realizes that one of her step-brothers is the same guy that the year before she had a weekend of bliss. It was purely a weekend of sex with no names only fun. However, it was more than just fun for Aria. The weekend ended with Braden just leaving with no note and no goodbye. Aria was heartbroken. Now one year later that same mysterious man is in front of her.
I love these taboo stories and was excited to start this one. Plus, I have enjoyed Bella Jewel’s other books. However, this one was just was hard for me to connect. I did not particular care for Aria or Braden. Also, it had the predictable annoying best friend, Melanie, who is always looking for a hot guy and/or telling Aria that she needs to “hook-up”. When Jack tells Aria that the family will be staying at a cabin and Melanie could come along, I was wishing the whole time that Melanie would stay home. Aria is pre-med, but a lot of her behavior was immature. I am not sure if this was from hanging out with Melanie or other circumstances because she was very mature when handling her mother. The mother was also not a character I cared for either.
I really liked the story of Braden’s brothers.
The book was not written poorly; I just did not like Aria or Braden. I love how Braden was all broody and his behavior was questionable, but then in the end I am not sure if they were good for each other.
