Doody's Book Review Service, Sally Ling, MD, University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine --
"This is a very well put together 'notebook' containing essential information that medical students need to acquire during internal medicine rotations. It is presented in an appealing format that is effective for learning.
"The book was written to enable students to study more efficiently for their clerkships, shelf exams, and boards. It is intended to consolidate important information which otherwise may need to be extracted from multiple sources.
"The authors envision students using this book beginning in their second year of medical school. It will be particularly helpful during third and fourth year internal medicine clerkships.
"All standard subspecialty areas with the exception of psychiatry and women's health are covered. Important clinical points are highlighted in the margins. Tables, illustrations, and clinical vignettes are effectively used.
"This well edited 'notebook' concisely provides pertinent and reliable information on internal medicine related topics. It will be extremely useful during internal medicine clerkships, as well as for preparation for the shelf exam and boards."--Four-Star Review from Doody's Book Review Service (Weighted Numerical Score: 92)

This is a great book. It's colorful and not nearly as boring and bland as some other USMLE prep books. This book is much more comprehensive and has more detail than Master the Boards USMLE Step 2 CK.
If you know this book for you Internal Medicine rotation you'll be more than prepared. This goes into more detail than necessary just for the shelf but if you're considering applying for an IM residency then this would definitely be a good book to have. It goes into a lot more detail than the Step-Up to USMLE Step 2 CK does - but this book is aimed at IM. It doesn't have OB/GYN or psychiatry... This book is about 2/3 the size of First Aid for the USMLE Step 1. If you're looking for a great book that is about half the thickness of this one and covers more of the core rotation topics, then I'd highly recommend Step-Up to USMLE Step 2 CK.
Personally, I think this book should be called Step Up to Internal Medicine because it is really mostly directed at Internal Medicine. It does not have Obstetrics, Gynecology, Pediatrics, Epidemiology, Ethics like Step Up to USMLE Step 2 CK has. I just wish Step Up to CK was as thick and comprehensive as this book and was more comprehensive with the topics that aren't in Step Up to Medicine.
The chapters in this book are as follows:
Diseases of the Cardiovascular System
Diseases of the Pulmonary System
Diseases of the Gastrointestinal System
Endocrine and Metabolic Diseases
Disease of the Central and Peripheral Nervous System
Connective Tissue and Joint Diseases
Diseases of the Renal and Genitourinary System
Fluids, Electrolytes, and Acid-Base Disorders

I used this book + UWorld Q bank to study for the shelf and felt adequately prepared.
As far as the product quality itself--the book came in great shape without any mark-ups. It arrived quickly and was packaged well.
For step 2, the information inside the book is strategically written, concise, and perfect for step review.
