Top Customer Reviews
We were so happy that we just recently purchased the same type of Step 2 Wagon (but in blue) for my nephew in hopes that they would get the same enjoyment. Boy was I disappointed when I opened the box and saw the quality of this "new" wagon. The disappointment started the minute that I pulled the parts out of the box.
The main piece of the wagon was such a dull shade of blue. It looked dirty and the best thing that I can relate it to is the paint job on a 15+ year old car that never had a car wash. (I am going to attach pictures to this product on Amazon showing this) I tried to wipe it down in hopes to bring out a little shine but my attempts were unsuccessful.
I then started to put the wagon together and noticed that one of the wheels had the plastic tread pulling away from the wheel and it was warped (I have pictures of this too). Thankfully it is still functional but I am not sure how long the tread will last.
Shortly after noticing this and then putting the front two wheels on I noticed that the caps that hold the wheels in place were covered in such a cheap plastic that they had cracked when they were put in place. I followed the instructions exactly when putting this on but I questioned the recommended use of a common hammer and I used a rubber mallet instead to protect these caps. Didn't seem to matter. I would hate to see what would have happened if I DID use a real hammer.
I also noticed that there are other design changes that were made since mine was purchased a few years ago. Nothing major but it is enough for me to question the thoughts of Step 2. An example of this can even be found with the handle. It is a much thinner plastic.
I truly felt embarrassed to be giving this to my brother's child as a gift. For the price I expect more. From the Step 2 brand I expect A LOT more. My wagon that I have used for years still looks brand new. The craftsmanship is what I expected. The red color still looks as bright and rich as it did the day we pulled it out of the box. I can not believe that the quality has gone down hill so quickly.
I didn't assemble this, but it only took my husband about 15 minutes. The actual seat portions are well made but the wheels and axle just don't seem like they will last, which is why this got 4/5.
Best pro: size!
Worst con- wheels are thin and light and axle is thin and not as sturdy as other comparable models.
Two of my favorite features:
1. One of the seats has a compartment underneath where you can store anything you might need. It has come in handy for snacks or water. Also, when we got caught in the rain, it was a (somewhat) safe place to hide our phones.
2. The bottom has small drain holes. This may seem minor, but it is a huge help. We live in the city and don't have a lot of garage space. We keep the wagon outside. If it rains, it dries out really quickly because of these holes. Its a small thing that makes a huge difference.
Some people have complained about how noisy it is. It is noisy but not overly. Its plastic, what do you expect? I would definitely buy it again.
