Blog postI’m a mother, author, speaker, business owner and grandmother. I have my hands full on a regular day let alone during a pandemic. It is my job to make sure my family is safe, nurtured, and informed. That’s why it is more important than ever that I take care of myself to be there for them. Not just present, but joyful, rested, and calm. Here are some of the things that I do to keep my sanity during this tough time.
1. Pray. I talk to God each morning in my quiet place. That could8 months ago Read more -
Blog postWe can’t give from an empty vessel. Our mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional health are what gives us the inner resources to live fulfilling lives. Taking care of yourself is an act of love. What do you enjoy? What helps you to relax, be calm? What are you passionate about? What brings you joy?
Often we, especially women want to be there for the ones we love, and we put our own well-being on the back burner. It’s often when we get sick, depressed, or irritable, or overwhelmed th2 years ago Read more -
Blog postMy debut novel will be on sale February 9th. I’m so excited to share this with you. Often women put everyone before themselves and end up tired and unfulfilled after giving so much to so many. Loving yourself first is about taking care of yourself, making you a priority. That is not selfish, it is actually one of the most loving things a woman can do. Then she is more able to give to others from a place of strength and joy.
In my book Yolanda learns this through trial and error.2 years ago Read more -
Blog postI am not an optimistic person by nature. I think I used to be before I experienced trauma as a child and as an adult. I believe that reality changed my view of the world from a kind place to a threat. Of course that was a distorted image of life but nonetheless it was how I felt. I learned early in life to watch the folks around me, to cover myself in distance, or a tough outer shell, not allowing anyone in to harm me. The result was a dark view of life. Blog postI am so glad that prayer is a central part of my life. Yesterday we got a call from the school that my son had cut his head on the playground. Anytime the words “cut his head” are used, it does not sound good. I put down the phone and told my husband. He is retired now and I work from home. The school nurse said on the phone that he may need stitches. “Stitches”, this was getting worse as she talked.
We made it to the school, signed in and went straight to the nurse’2 years ago Read more -
Blog postWhere talent and passion collide, that is your purpose. Let me tell you what I mean:
All of us want to feel like we are doing something that matters. Some search for a sign, an arrow pointing in the direction they need to follow. Let me tell you a secret, there are no signs. The way has already been made, it’s inside you. The noise of the world drowns out this knowing and replaces it with nonsense, unnecessary baggage and confusion. It is seeking itself, a “me,2 years ago Read more -
Blog postWhat I love about life is the regenerative effect. There is an inherent ability for us to make all things new. In a different way but with better qualities than there was before. I start today asking what can I create? What can I make better? It doesn’t have to be a big thing, but add some good to something. That’s my joy!
My voice is powerful. My time is a resource. My skills are an asset. With God’s guidance, I will use them for the greater good. It is not what2 years ago Read more -
Blog postI had to drag myself out of bed this morning. Mind over matter, lol. But true! I washed my face and made a cup of coffee with hazelnut creamer, grabbed my phone to read my daily scripture that comes to my email. And after a few minutes, I was saying, “Let’s go!”. I took extra time curling my hair, putting on a little makeup and this cute top that I bought on sale at Pink Avenue. My wheels started turning and inspiration flowing!

Blog postSo this is my second day blogging. Here I am at my desk in my home office. I have rewritten this book three times. I feel like I am growing as I write. I too had low self-esteem although I had many opportunities, I struggled with insecurity. It has been a long process and a rewarding one as I use the skills I’ve learned to live the life I want. That’s what my new book about.
The editing process will take several months. I will keep you posted.
