About Stephen Awiba
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Stephen Awiba, known by his students as Yaw, is the founding editor of LEARNAKAN.COM and MYTWIDICTIONARY.COM. He was born and raised in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital of Ghana, where Akan (Asante Twi) is spoken as the first language. Besides being exposed to and acquiring Twi from birth, Yaw has had the privilege of studying Twi from the basic school level, through high school, and at the university. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and Theatre Arts from the University of Ghana (UG) and an MPhil in English Linguistics and Language Acquisition from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

LEARNAKAN.COM is a free e-learning website dedicated to helping people from around the world to read, write and speak the Akan language in a simple, fun manner. Founded in June 2016 by Stephen Awiba, the website features a wide range of useful lessons on grammar, vocabulary building, commonly-used phrases and overall communicative skills. The site comes with a dedicated YouTube channel, LEARNAKAN.COM, where video lessons are published to aid learners in mastering proper pronunciations.

MYTWIDICTIONARY.COM is your ultimate online destination for English to Twi and Twi to English translations. The website was launched on March 6, 2018 (commemorating Ghana’s 61st independence anniversary) to form part of the broader LEARNAKAN project. MYTWIDICTIONARY.COM is ideal for Twi learners of all levels, linguists, and other professionals who use the Twi dialect of the Akan language in their lines of work.
