About Stephen Clements
If you like your stories tough, gritty, and dark, I've got some good stuff for you! If you like happiness, rainbows, and cute bunnies, hmm, maybe not. You may not feel good about life at the end of my stories, but it will be worth your time.
The authors I look up to the most are John Julius Norwich (his histories of Byzantium changed my life) and H.P. Lovecraft (the grandpappy of all horror writers). The author I most despise is Charles Dickens, because he got paid by the word and it shows: writers that spend pages and pages on details that do the reader no good are wasting the precious little time we have in our lives, and I write to give the reader what they need to know, when they need to know it, and to give the right amount of detail to allow the reader's mind to render the world in more vivid color than any writer could do on their own.
I enjoy reading history, philosophy, and schlock fantasy fiction. :) I make my own wine, love to travel, and believe you should never trust someone with no vices. There are 3 corgis and 2 black kitties that conspire with my beautiful, mean wife to run me like a rented mule. I once drank liquor out of a hobo's jacket in Transylvania and Red Bull from a Turkish cabbie in Istanbul. I've lived.

“A collection of stories celebrating the underbelly of the city, its ghosts, and the characters that give Memphis its rich patina of blues.” —Memphis Flyer
The Home of the Blues knows how darkness can permeate a person’s soul—and what it can drive you to do. It’s the soundtrack to a city that’s made up of equal parts hope and despair, past and present, death and rebirth. On the streets of Memphis, noir hits the right note.
Memphis Noir features stories by city standouts Richard J. Alley, David Wesley Williams, Dwight Fryer, Jamey Hatley, Adam Shaw, Penny Register-Shaw, Kaye George, Arthur Flowers, Suzanne Berube Rorhus, Ehi Ike, Lee Martin, Stephen Clements, Cary Holladay, John Bensko, Sheree Renée Thomas, and Troy L. Wiggins.
“A remarkable picture of contemporary Memphis emerges in this Akashic noir volume . . . Something for everyone.” —Publishers Weekly
“Covers train cars and Beale Street, hoodoo and segregation, Nathan Bedford Forrest and, of course, Graceland, and even includes a graphic novella.” —Memphis Flyer
“Captures the subtlety of the Memphis ethos, where blacks and whites, rich and poor, are intimately entwined. The collection—fifteen stories by some of the city’s finest writers—bleeds the blues and calls down the dark powers that permeate this capital of the Delta.” —The Commercial Appeal (Memphis)
“The new anthology Memphis Noir is replete with murders, ghosts, gangsters, a sharp-toothed baby, Boss Crump, and high water on the bluff.” —Memphis Magazine

Have you ever stopped and given change to a hobo? What kind of man would move a hobo to stop and give him change? Jeff Klitzner rose from the ashes of his troubled childhood, complete with insane mother, absent father, getting committed, and poker games with senior citizens, to beg, borrow, and steal his way across five continents, get kicked out of a foreign country, get thrown in jail, break hearts, qualify as a rabbi, and drink epic amounts of alcohol. And he’s lived to tell about it. So far. You better read this book, because I’m not sure if he’ll survive to write a sequel. If you lived this hard, you might not either. The most screwed up lives make for the best stories. Top this one.
