Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

E! Online:

"Originally concocted as a spoof of celebrity-penned sci-fi novels with long and dauntingly punctuated titles, this Tek Jansen actually delivers all the stuff you'd want in a comic, everything from over-the-top villains to heroes who might inadvertently have instigated a war that spans the universe.

A fistful of justice never tasted this sweet."

EyeOnComics.com:

"If I had to describe this comic book in one word, it would be.... Lincolnish. (Lincoln was into sci-fi and comics, right? What? No? Oh.) OK, make that one word: Megamerican.

Were I allowed three real words instead of one truthy word, then those three words would be 'pretty damn funny.' "

BrokenFrontier.com:

"Yes, the star of Stephen Colbert's famous science fiction novel has leapt to the funny book pages and America is better off because of it. For a mere $3.99 you get two mind-numbingly fantastic Tek Jansen adventures wherein Tek battles nefarious Optiklons and racist Rombaronians. Set in a futuristic world of space travel and aliens, Stephen Colbert's Tek Jansen has everything you would expect it to have--if you ever watch Stephen Colbert's show. If not, then the aforementioned government officials might be knocking on your door as you read this."

When I heard that the Tek Jansen comics were coming out, I was at first nervous. Would the comics be just as good as the show, or would they fall short of Stephen Colbert's hilarious brand of comedy and disappoint me?

Luckily, Tek Jansen issue number one managed to be a completly hilarious comic, and I loved it instantly! The humor is not entirely like Colbert's, but similiar all the same. Colbert did have some imput in the script and art for the comic, but it's clear that the comic's writers and artists took their own style and combined it with Colbert's to create a fantastic, entertaining read.

I counted down the days for this comic to come out, and though it came out months later than expected, I finally bought it and devoured it, and I'll be doing the same thing with the next one. The next issue can only get better, as the comic book writers and artists collaborate even more with each other and with Colbert to create such an amazing piece of work that's entertaing for fans of The Colbert Report, fans of comic books, teenagers, adults, and everyone in between!

If you love the self-referential blathering from the smarter, illegitimate son of Bill O'Reilly then this is the comic book for you. Really. Like the Colbert Report does for gas-bag punditry, this comic sends up science fiction and comic book norms and sets them down at a 14 degree angle.

Tek Jansen has the libido of Captain Kirk and the brains of Captain Crunch. Those who are fortunate to live through his help, live to regret it.

The satire works on many levels. I believe there are 7, which matches the number in Dante's Inferno. This explains the horns on the folks in the second story. There should be stairs from the second story to the first, but the first story is a serial that comes without milk.

I've always liked sci-fi parody more than sci-fi itself. (Hitchhiker's Guide...Futurama...) As such, and as a Colbert fan, I think that this series is just great. Buy it and enjoy...even if, like me, you're not really a comics person!

From the beginning to the end, this is hilarious and true to the Tek Jansen we're used to on the Colbert Report.
