This is a movie that can take 2-3 days to watch (Length: 6 hours). The film is based on the 1978 book by Stephen King. The book became a #1 best seller and a mini-series of the The Stand released in 1994.
In my view, this is not meant to be a "horror movie," as it is to be a movie to make people think where they "Stand" in their life. More on this in a minuet.
Basic Plot:
A top secret gov lab accidentally released a weaponized flu-virus that spread around the world.
Most everyone dies, but two distinct "chosen" groups survive.
One group, call it 'On the side of Good,' chosen by God. The other group, call it, 'On the side of Evil' (criminals, extreme sinners, liars, cheats, who end up chosen by the devil. At one point, the "chosen" on both sides make a Stand. Who will win? Good or Evil? Watch and find out.
Background:
Know that Stephen King is not a religious guy at all, and leans politically hard Left. So just know this is a movie, and not a political commentary one way or another.
I interpreted the movie however with religious overtones of "Judgement Day" of good versus evil, and who will win.
What I liked about it the most, and watching again with others, is it seems to make people think about what kind of person they are; or what kind of person they want to be, or should be. Would you be one of the "chosen" and what side would you "Stand?"
If you like a movie that makes you reflect about life, you'll enjoy it. It's a movie that requires attention, not passively watching while doing something else (like being on your phone). Good value for the money. Recommended.
