These clocks come in "Sir" and "Madam". I have the "Madam" clock, which has flowers in the corners of the face, rather then the more manley accents of the "Sir" model... It's my understanding that all the lines are the same in both clocks exept for "Sir" or "Madam". (Although it's possible to change a "Madam" clock to say "Sir" and vice versa by holding down the rosette button above the clock face as you install the three AA batteries.)

First of all, the clock looks great. It has a nice weighty feel when you pick it up. It looks studious and classy sitting anywhere you care to set it down.

I was just woken up by this clock for the first time this morning... I get up at 4 AM so that I can call people in other time zones at an hour convienent for them. So I need all the help I can get in being chipper first thing when I roll out of bed. It starts off with the sound of chirping birds, then you hear Stephen Fry/Jeeves clear his throat, say "Good Morning Madam" (or Sir) and then something pithy about getting up and starting your day. The clock will then beep a couple of times. You can stop the beeping by pressing the "rosette" button above the clock face, and Sephen Fry/Jeeves will say something else (like "Deftly done Madame.").

The sound quality is pretty good and there's a volume control knob on the back for you to adust it to your liking.

The clock runs on three AA batteries... Although I'm not sure what the third battery is for, since the clock started making noise after I'd inserted the second battery.

I feel I must be honest. I'm a single woman who lives alone, I go to sleep when it's dark and wake up when it's dark (depending on the time of year).

After seeing so many negative and incriminating reviews about this product, I was understandably recalcitrant to purchase for fear of buying something cheap or gaudy. The good news is that the clock's gaudiness is simply a matter of taste; the item is well built and, and comes with a multitude of features; most notably: the incomparable, round-shaped tones of Mr. Fry. It has a built-in light and one can adjust the volume accordingly. When setting the desired wake-up time, the clock goes into a droll albeit entertainingly effective relaxation mode. The clock comes with easy to read instruction manual for your viewing pleasure. This is a great product, most especially when one considers how much they are getting. This is far more then a simple alarm clock. This is a lifestyle. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

I love this clock! There is no better way to start the day than with a little gentle British humor. I always wake up before it goes off to make sure I hear the morning witticism. My husband even used to set his alarm before mine to make sure he was awake to hear my clock go off! I say this, and gave the product 5 stars, despite the fact that this is really not a great alarm clock. It doesn't know AM from pm so will go off twice a day unless you remember to turn it off and on again, it doesn't keep super accurate time, and it has a capricious snooze alarm. Actually, it has no snooze alarm function at all, but sometimes (not always) it will go off 1/2 hour after the first alarm, and occasionally a third time! I don't know if this is common or if our clock is just "special" - as in possessed by an actual comedian! So if you are the kind of person who would be driven crazy by this, this is not the alarm clock for you. But if the idea of starting off the day with a smile and a gentle reminder to look for the humor in life appeals to you, you will love it. Also, the "sir" and "madam" versions are different, so be sure to get the right one. The "madam" version includes things like "Good morning, madam. Mrs Beckam called to request the honor of your presence at her birthday party. You only have to stay for 20 minutes and will receive in return something called a "goodie bag." It contains a Maserati, the deed to a small European principality, and a small European Prince. I told her she could not afford your fee. Very good, madam."

Here is my message this morning: '"Good morning madam. If you are feeling the need for a little musical entertainment this evening, I understand Kiri te Kanawa is in town. It's true she lacks volume control, but if necessary we can put her in the next room. Very good, madam." And it's Stephen Fry's 'Jeeves' voice. Really, is there anything better to wake up to in the morning? I seriously doubt it.

Although the clock was somewhat smaller than I had expected, I should have paid more attention to the description, it has worked out nicely. Except for the color it fits in well with my decor. I like the old fashioned analog display. The ticking sound it makes is most soothing to listen to at night. Having Stephen Fry lull you to sleep when you press the button on the front is interesting if not always as soothing as it could be. The alarm is most amusing when it wakes you up. First the sound of birds singing, then Stephen Fry's voice with an amusing phrase. So far I have not heard the same phrase twice. The beeping alarm is a little annoying afterwards, but not anymore so than most alarm clocks. If I have any criticism of the clock it would be in it's design. The LED light that aluminates the face of the clock is satisfactory, but it may have been better to have had two LED's instead of one. The knobs on the back of the clock to adjust the alarm and time are a bit small and hard to use. It would have been better to have made them stick out of the back a little more. Because it is an old fashioned type of clock, adjusting the alarm setting is also not an exact science. You could be off by + or - ten to fifteen minutes in your setting. Other than that I am quite satisfied with this item.
