It isn’t just the food we eat, but also the things we think and the activities we do that apparently contribute to the so-called “healthy living.” I think this book has become effective due to the fact that the author uses grandmother as an example, an old lady that lives a healthy life that is now in her hundredth year (and more) of living. This example is quite fascinating these days, especially when millennials would already consider this an extraordinary achievement.
15 Steps to Healthy Living is your perfect go-to book if you feel like you want to start living healthy and apparently not knowing how to start, basically. This book has all the things you need. In fact, I am going to start a healthy-living life right now with this as a manual.
My two greatest criticisms of this book are as follows:
1. Lack of Scientific Backing
There are almost no actual studies cited throughout this book. While many claims invoke science by saying things like “many scientific studies have shown,” few if any actually provide a citation to back the claim. This undermines the strength of the claims in an otherwise well-structured and detailed book.
2. Lack of Consideration of Impoverished Readers
While “15 Steps” addresses so many facets of healthy living, it does not address the genuine concern of supporting such lifestyle steps. Suggesting organic food options, unpasteurized milk (which is not legal in many states,) smoothies, and gluten-free products is one thing, but funding such a change is, for many people around the U.S. and world, very difficult. I think it would benefit the book to mention and perhaps offer solutions for the problem of high premiums on gluten-free and organic products.
15 Steps to Health Living: It is a Guide to learn how to naturally lose weight, gain energy and live a healthy and an enhanced lifestyle.
Dr. Gordon Fimreite shares his passion, his knowledge and his adoptable strategies for optimizing your SELF in order to lead a longer, healthier life.
The book’s introduction highlights his 105-year-old grandmother’s lifestyle and shares the way she lived her life, which parallels what research studies are showing contribute to healthy living and longevity.
It’s fascinating how much the way she lived her life parallels what research studies are showing to contribute to healthy living and longevity. She ate nutritious foods, exercised, spent time in the sun to get her needed vitamin D, relaxed to handle stress, socialized, enjoyed humor, and had a purpose for living through her faith in God.
She told me that while heredity was a factor “…just as important is my diet. I eat healthy foods. And I keep my mind and body active.”
"15 Steps" goes into detail with current trends in health and wellness including nutritious food selections and ingredients, supplementation, detoxing from inside and out, exercise, sleep and stress strategies along with positive psychology and happiness.
The mission and goal of 15 Steps to Healthy Living is to help every individual live a fuller, happier, and more productive life. In summary, this book is about researched knowledge through experiments and focusing on healthy eating, diet, optimizing nutrition, living longer, weight loss, dieting tips, mindfulness and brain health.
