I guess it works fine. You plug your stereo headphones into a monaural sound source and you get the same sound out of each channel. Which is what you want to have happen. So it works just fine.

I purchased a three pack of these about a year ago and have been using them regularly since then.

I use them only for listening to old radios that were designed for use with a single mono earphone for one ear, not the stereo headphones and earbuds we're used to today. If I plug in a pair of stereo headphones to one of those radios, without the adapter, I hear audio in only one ear. With the adapter I can hear the radio mono output in both ears.

So far I have had no problem with any of the three adapters that came in the pack.

I lost the hearing in one ear due to a childhood disease. I have tried using a Stereo to Mono adapter separately but it only plays one channel into stereo headphones. Using this adapter (mono to stereo) alone should not be used on stereo outputs as another commenter mentioned. Using a 3.5mm stereo to mono adapter (Amazon link below) FIRST, then this (3.5mm mono to stereo adapter) between my mp3 player and stereo headphones lets me hear both channels of music as it combines the left and right channels. If you are deaf in the right ear, it would work as well.

...first combines the two channels then, the Mono to Stereo plug (this one) sends both channels equally to left and right of my stereo headphones. I taped the two adapters together. Audiophiles will cringe since the outputs and levels are not designed to be combined but, for a person with only ability in one ear, we get to hear all of the music and voice.

Additional edit due to an important point mentioned here...

This works with my simple mp3 player which has a three conductor plug Tip (L)-ring-sleeve (R)-sleeve(G). I would not recommend trying this with other plugs that may have a microphone or balanced stereo outputs. These would have 4 or more smaller conductor rings on the plug (say a phone. etc.) and require (as mentioned by another) a more a complicated way to convert the output however, for this application, I have not yet found another way of doing this. I might also mention for those using Windows 10 and 11 (I'm not sure about IOS) in the Ease of Access/Audio setting you can set audio to mono thus, all of this is not required.

I was not satisfied with hearing the sound in only one ear so I purchased this adapter so that the monaural output from the radio is routed to both the left and right sides of the headphones. Plugging stereo headphones into mono jacks on ham radios usually leaves sound in only 1 ear on the headphones. These adapers provide identical sound to each ear of the headphones for much more comfort in listening. Depending on the radio you use, you might have to grind down the plastic a little bit to make sure it firmly seats in the jack on the radio.
