Time for book two now...I'm hooked!!!
Zoe. The main character who is a plain jane only because her best friend is "super hot". But then tragedy happens when she is brutally attacked and "raped". We have no idea what is going on with Zoe until later in the book when we meet another of her kind. Turns out, she is some crazy energy wielding chick who needs to learn how to handle her newly given powers. She's dealing with a lot and she has to learn how to let go of her previous life.
Everyone else. Different personalities make them all interesting. Everyone adds something good and funny to the story.
Why are we missing a star? I like how Zoe is turning out. But I do wish she wasn't a damsel at times. I should have counted how many times she was picked up and carried to her bed or rescued or something along those lines. I'm not crazy about the relationship that seems to be ensuing. It's too obvious and I'm pretty sure this isn't a young adult book. Also, I feel like she isn't ready to fight her own battles. She's been training, but she'd get killed. Plus, she also seems to be a bit clingy or rather, dependent on whichever male character is around.
All in all, I do have the second book that I will be reading soon enough. Enjoy!
There's a part of us fantasy readers that wish that we could wake up immortal, powerful, and beautiful surrounded by very attractive men as our mentors. It sounds cliche, but there's more to it then that one sentence. I like that the main character isn't a flake and isn't just accepting everything coming her way because "the guy is hot". Nothing I hate worse in a novel where the heroine is in major danger, and all she can think about is getting her captor naked. Ugh.
