How To Play Pinball Like A Pro
- Always shoot for the flashing lights to maximize your scoring potential
- Learn to “catch” and “cradle” the ball on the flipper for control and aiming
- Advanced tip: Learn to “pass” the ball from one flipper to the other
- Strive to reach the Multi-Ball” mode of the game
- “Flipper Fingers” – Choose either your index or middle finger, whatever is comfortable
- Stance —This is a personal choice. Most common is one foot forward leaning into the machine
- Save the ball from side “drains” by shaking the cabinet slightly without causing the game to “tilt”
Tips from Game Designer George Gomez
- Start the game by choosing your side—Using the flipper buttons, either light the red Autobot light or light the purple Decepticon light over the pop bumpers. Whatever side you choose is your “side” for the game.
- 3 “Devastator” Pop Bumpers — the game features 3 commercial-grade Stern Pinball pop bumpers. Enter the pop bumper area where each successive hit increases the score awarded by 1K all the way up to 20K points per hit.
- “Traditional” 3-ball multiball themed around “Optimus Prime” - Once three balls are loaded into the right ramp ball “Cyberlock,” the player is rewarded with a 3-ball “Optimus” multiball mode. In a two-player game, whichever player locks the third ball gets fast and fun multiball action. During multiball, a set of shots are lit to score “Optimus Prime” Jackpots.
- Megatron Decepticon Target — Battle through Megatron’s force field featuring 3 in-line drop targets protecting Megatron. After dropping the three drop targets, a timer begins a countdown to “Battle Megatron,” where the player has limited time to hit Megatron. On the 4th hit, a light show starts and all game scoring doubles (i.e. 2x); Megatron’s eyes are illuminated, he moves, and he speaks! Each successive time the player battles Megatron successfully, scoring jumps from 2x to 3x to 4x and so on.
- Cyberlock Multiball—The “Wizard” mode: When a player locks three balls and starts Optimus Prime multiball, a set of shots on the playfield is lit. As the player skillfully hits each one, the corresponding light goes out. During this mode, Megatron’s Drop Targets stay up regardless of being hit. After the entire set of lit shots is hit, Megatron is ready for battle! If the player drops all 3 drop targets and hits Megatron, Cybertron Multiball begins! For 60 seconds, the game will continually serve every drained ball--the player can keep shooting to keep all 3 balls in play for the duration of ‘The Battle for Cybertron.’ After the time expires, the game returns to Megatron Multiball mode, until the player drains all but 1 ball - then Multiball is over.
- Collect all of your favorite Transformers and earn regular and bonus points, too! Shoot either "Collect Autobots/Decepticons” lane. On the 2nd hit of either of these lanes, a special mode is entered to collect a specific transformer. The transformers are collected in sequence that depends on the player's side. The currently-pursued Transformer is indicated by a blinking LED light on the plastic standup cutout images on the left ramp. After a player collects 2 transformers of the same side, his side changes. He can then collect 2 transformers from the other side.

Gameplay is not very complex and is quick. The machine feels solid, just like a real machine, but scaled-down. There are more lanes to shoot at rather than targets. Lanes give you bonuses and allow you to collect autobots and decepticons. Music, sound and lighting are excellent. The machine is LOUD if you want it, but volume control is included. The body of the machine is great quality. The back is pretty flimsy and lo-fi, but that's where you are saving $ and weight, so there is a trade
The centerpiece is Megatron. If you knock down 3 targets, he is exposed. Hit that shot and points are multiplied 2X. Do it again, 3X. Yet again, 4X. The lighting when you hit the Megatron target is dark and decepticon like. Very cool. Honestly, this should be the best part of the game, but unfortunately, it's also its biggest problem.
The Megatron target is nearly dead center, releasing the ball directly down the play field between your flippers probably 40% of the time. Then, you are done. Finished. When the next ball is launched, the targets reset and you need to start over again. :( It's a bummer. Why not leave the targets up? The game does not have a lot going on, why make it tougher?
Now the next issue which I HOPE is limited to my machine. 1 week in, the Megatron targets would NOT reset. They are all in the down position. They try to reset themselves, but something is stuck. I'm no pinball repairman, so I'm not touching it. This is one of the benefits of Amazon / Amazon Prime. They are allowing me to return or exchange for free. An excellent benefit (hopefully it goes ok).
So will I exchange? No, not for the same machine. I am worried about spending $3K for something that shouldn't malfunction for years, but has a big issue in a week's time. HOPEFULLY this is limited to my machine, but wanted you to be aware out there. I can get a nice used / restored full-size machine locally for that price and will possibly go that route. A pinball machine, new or used, has moving parts. Things can and will happen, but that's the chance you take to play these classic games.
UPDATE*********** Jan 4
Well, something burned out. The pinballs won't deploy. Maybe something burned out but the machine is essentially toast. Luckily free returns!!!!
