The game is primarily meant to be played by 3 - 8 players, though it is recommended that 4 - 6 players play it. The average game time is 1.5 hours, but from personal experience, the first few times you play it, be prepared to spend 4 hours or more.

About the game:-
There are 8 Illuminati groups, and each of these groups try to win the game. Each of the game has a particular goal, which is unique (well, almost!). The Illuminati group which gets to its goal first wins. The game is play with help of 2 dice, printed money (like monopoly), special cards and group cards. Because there can be only one winner, the game gets ct throat as it progresses, and teaches you many valuable lessons you would face in real-life anyway. You might collaborate to take someone down but ultimately you would have to kick that same person the rabbit hole.

Cons:-
The way the rule book is written is a spoiler. I did not understand many things when I read it first. On my second reading, I was able to play. But I realized later that I had misinterpreted some key rules in my first game. For such a good game, an ill constructed manual like this one is a real put off.
Apart from this, I cannot think of any other cons, unless you become to addicted to it :)

Pros:-
Awesome use of mind is required. You gotta be alert at all times
Gives you same joy as monopoly, with more politics mixed
A great game to know someone's way of thinking esp. if he/she is not too difficult to read

Having said all this, the joy of playing this game cannot be really felt unless you have played it. Well the game makers don't expressly say it, but from my experience, it would be better to play this one with a more matured set of people so that misunderstandings are minimized.

Its a good game but one will have to make sure they are enough people to play and they are fairly even in competive ability. Meaning a mixed group of adults and young kids would not be fun. Also for non fantasy fans it will take a bit of explaining and the game is very esoteric and is very honed on a small audience. It's probably not going to be a big hit w a lot of people, unless perhaps at a convention. If though one can find a group it will more then likely take several sessions of bumbling around w the rules to get the full grasp of the game. A lot of it is based on subtrafuge that goes undetected, though after a round or two it becomes obvious who does what. It would be hard to pull off shifting alliances and the like for most players until a high level of understanding of the game is achieved as the game has multiple goals at once going on.

This is an awesome game!!! although I have played it in the past and new that. It's pretty expensive. I was able to find a "very good condition" used copy and it's fantastic. It was in such good shape, I dont understand what qualified it as used. Some parts of the game, the perforation wasnt even torn yet and many pieces were still in original wrappers. I'm nore than 100% satisfied!

The game is playable but it's not as good as the 1995 edition of the game. Get this if you're not sure if you'd be able to learn how to play the game as this version has simplified card effects.

Pros:
*It's playable
*It's fun.
*The instructions are clear enough. (It may take a while to understand but you'll eventually get it)

Cons:

>The 1995 edition is better.
*All of the group cards lack descriptions.(as seen in the NWO 1995 edition)
*Some of the effects of certain cards seem to be simplified.
*Some of the content seems to have been toned down. (Many of the really violent images are replaced with generic,dull looking images)

I got this for my friend who loves to play Magic with her friends-it is similar in that each game is different and shaped by how each player chooses to play, so you can play again and again with the same group of friends, form alliances, turn on each other, and even cheat (as long as the others don't catch you!).

This is an update of the original Illuminati game that was originally released in the 80s. It features some extensions, and most importantly updated colour artwork!
Players take on the role of shadowy secret societies called the Illuminati. Examples being the Gnomes of Zurich (money-masters), the Bavarian Illuminati (power-mongers), and several others. Each secret conspiracy has its own goal, which is pursued by taking over other, lesser organisations such as the Mafia, the UN, or the IRS - each represented by its own card in the game.
At a more human level, the game lends itself to interesting rivalries and alliances, as weaker players gang up to bring down a stronger one, or deals are made (and broken).
Highly recommended if you're looking for a slightly off-mainstream game to play with several like-minded friends.
