Product Description

Product Description

Includes 168 cards, 6 standies, 6 player cards, gameboard, rules, and die. What makes this edition "deluxe"? It's got a big gameboard to keep your cards in place, and six colored standies that you move on the gameboard as you level up. Plus a card to go with each standie, to make it easy to remember who’s what color and who’s what gender. Go down in the dungeon. Kill everything you meet. Backstab your friends and steal their stuff. Grab the treasure and run. Admit it. You love it.

From the Manufacturer

Munchkin is the mega-hit card game about dungeon adventure . . . with none of that stupid roleplaying stuff. You and your friends compete to kill monsters and grab magic items. Be sure to don the Horny Helmet and the Boots of Butt-Kicking. Wield the Staff of Napalm . . . or maybe the Chainsaw of Bloody Dismemberment. Start by slaughtering the Potted Plant and the Drooling Slime, and work your way up to the Plutonium Dragon . . and it's illustrated by John Kovalic. Fast-playing and silly, Munchkin can reduce any roleplaying group to hysteria. And, while they're laughing, you can steal their stuff.

I have been looking for games for our family of 6 people to all play together. I wanted something fun for all our ages, with the goal being to spend more time together instead of vegging out with no interaction in front of the TV. I read about Munchkin years ago and kept putting off buying it, now I wish I had just bought it a long time ago. This is a very fun, very easy game to play and is enjoyable for everyone in our family, from ages 9-65 (youngest up to Grandma!). We all love it and have played it everyday since the day it arrived. Now we are all looking forward to adding some of the themed expansion decks.

If you are looking for a good family game [way more fun than monopoly, Risk and all the other usual crap], with a quirky/geeky side of humor thrown in, this is a game worth checking out.

**Update** After playing this game for several weeks since buying it, I had to revise this review to help get the word out. This game is a LOT more fun than any other board or card game I've ever played. I have now bought almost every expansion and the fun literally never ends. Munchkin (& it's expansions) is a wonderful family fun game for sitting around the table for either a quick 40min round or an epic 2hour match. It is also a blast as a party game. Get this base game of Munchkin and a few choice expansions & invite some friends over for a very very fun party night. The more cards you have the more people can play, we've had up to 8 so far with no problems. It's a fast paced game, so a game round with 6 people usually takes ~1 hour, if you don't let people take too much time on their turns.

Have only played a few games with some friends before I picked up this set. In my opinion, this is the way the original game should be instead of being labeled the Deluxe edition. The true difference between the original and the deluxe is simply the fact that there is a board with game tokens that you can use for counting your character's level. The cards are also in full color, although that could be not exclusive to the Deluxe edition (I'm not 100% sure).

This game is excellent for gaming groups who play games that are quite long and serious who need a break from those types of games for something a bit lighter. It is also a great for larger groups of players (5+) who are looking for something to play that is relaxing, engaging and not too complex. With the right group, the game encourages a humorous atmosphere and you'll find yourself laughing quite a bit!

The game itself keeps everyone engaged no matter who's turn it is, because of fact that you are able to play cards on someone elses turn to help or hinder them (this is the humorous part). Most of the time, it is actually to your benefit to hinder people with your cards, and the game comes down to alliances or rivalries with other players whom you have either helped or hindered. The point is, don't take it too seriously. Wether or not you have the regular or the Deluxe edition the game itself is great fun to play with the right group.

In closing, I'd like to give this game five stars, but simply can't. My primary complaint and reason for only giving it four stars is because even with all the extra tokens, the game board and full color cards, there is no place in the box to store the two stacks of cards.

I purchased this game for my 16 year old son on recommendation of a Swedish friend, who's played it for years. We grabbed it Christmas night to play, at the insistence of my son, and proceeded to spend the next four hours in some very animated gameplay. The oldest person playing was 61; the youngest 14. I can't remember the last time we laughed so much, or had such competition going on. It takes a few rounds to get the hang of, but once you do, it just gets more fun as you go! If you have anyone who plays MMORPG's (most of my family does)it's guaranteed to entertain. The playboard helps you keep up with the gameplay, the cards themselves are sturdy, and everything goes back into the box like a dream.

Munchkin Deluxe: 3-6 Players, Ages 12+, Average Play Time = 45-60 Minutes

First, I want to mention that clean up was simple, which always makes me happy. There aren't that many components, so sorting cards was the extent of our post game celebration. The cards themselves are well done and maintain a light, PG-13-esque humor. My thirteen year old step-daughter chuckled at the card that featured the troll reading a porn magazine. Everyone playing enjoyed discovering a new card, mainly just to see what kind of silly joke / pun was on it.

The game mechanics encourage social interaction, which is always a plus. You'll often see two or more players agreeing to work together (for a cut of the treasure cards) only for another player to throw in a card that throws a wrench into their well laid plans. The kids were very active in trading items and discussing bonuses with one another.

My other half, unfortunately, did not like the game and cut out about fifteen minutes in. At first, all of the different cards overwhelmed her and she wasn't sure what everything did. As she watched us play and with me helping, she grasped the basic concepts but didn't find it all that fun. I don't fault her, as everyone has a different taste in games. She enjoyed Lost Cities and Nile DeLuxor, so it all comes down to what someone likes and doesn't.

The kids loved it. There were often times where I just let them go to town and do their thing while I sat back, nodding sagely while being completely oblivious and lost. Anthony Jr (16), Carolyn (13), Devonn (11), and Vinnie Jr (11) all enjoyed battling monsters to level up. We ended up all reaching level nine at the same time and it became a furious fight to see who could beat the next monster that appeared on their turn first.
