You are a zombie. The dice represent humans. You want their brains. Take 3 out of the cup (without looking), and then roll them. |
You want brains. Each time you roll a brain, set it aside. They count for points. If you roll any feet, they got away. If you chose to roll again, you will draw up to three dice and roll again. |
Don't get shotgunned! As you roll, each shotgun blast you get must be set aside. So push your luck, but not too far! If you get three blasts, your turn ends and you lose all of the brains (points) you earned that turn. |
Eat 13 brains and WIN!Add up your brains each round. When someone reaches 13 (or more!), everyone else gets one more chance. The zombie with the most brains wins! |

What a great game! I have an 8 year old who's just starting to get into horror stuff. She wanted this game because of the zombie on the front, but once we started playing the game, she fell in love with it. It's an easy game with simple rules that can be played quickly. You rack up brains (points) and if you get shot 3 times, you get none for that round. All other dice can be re-rolled. First person to score the right amount of points wins. I believe the instructions say first person to either 13 or 14 points, but my daughter and I have easily adapted this to a 30-50 point game when we were really in the mood to play.
I would recommend this to any parent with kids over the age of 5. It's a great counting tool. The zombie drawing on the front is as graphic as anything in the game gets. The dice have a picture of a brain, one of a bang, and one of footprints. You could probably cover the cup they come in (and let your child draw on the cup), and tell your kids the pictures of brains are cotton candy or something. My daughter and I called brains "Points," Shotgun blasts "BANGS," and the footprints "Runners." Let your child decide what the brain shape looks like if you feel that "brains" is too graphic of a term for them.
My daughter and I have had HOURS of fun with this time killer.

Looking for a dice-rolling game along the lines of Farkle (but quicker than Farkle)? Zombie Dice is the answer!
This is a super-fast, super-simple game, good for a 5-10 break from meatier fare. A player starts by taking three dice from the container and rolling them. Ultimately, you want brains (first zombie to roll 13 brains wins!). However, it's very possible to roll shotguns (three shots and you're out!) or footsteps (victims that got away--and give you another chance for brainnnnnns!). With each roll, you're taking a gamble: you can choose to re-roll the footsteps in an attempt to gain more brains. However, rolling also increases your risk of getting shot!
Easy to learn, with a ridiculous/hilarious theme, Zombie Dice is a nice variation on dice-gambling games like Yahtzee and Farkle. Like those, it's also a game mostly of luck, not strategy, and it can finish in a couple minutes if someone's rolling hot! (Of course, you can always raise the brain count to prolong a game!) My only complaint is the cylindrical cardboard container; it'd be nice if it were made of plastic or something more solid that would stand up better over time.

When I bought this, I was under the impression that it was Martian Dice, but with a Zombie theme. It's not, which is a good thing. Similar to Martian Dice, the game is easy to learn and can be played in under 15 minutes, depending on how many players. It's very kid-friendly, as my nine-year-old has played with me repeatedly. He has figured out the "odds" mechanic and makes decisions based on the ratio of red/green/yellow dice in the can or already played. The can quality is good enough, but it's size doesn't allow you to easily pull three dice blindly. This is not a big deal. What is a big deal is that the game is not color-blind friendly. With about 20% of the male population suffering from color blindness, there's really no reason for this. While the icons on the dice are clear and different, the green and red are painfully similar for those with that variant of color blindness. Mind you, it's not a deal breaker, but it's pretty inexcusable for a modern game to have an issue like this.

Zombie Dice is a fun, interesting, brilliant, fast, and EASY game. With the two expansions, a total of eight possible permutations of the game is possible, allowing for a series of games with gradually expanding rules to be played.
The drawsting bag is a necessity because mixing the dice in the cup is LOUD, obnoxiously and irritatingly loud. The cup is fantastic for storage but terrible for actual play.
The rules sheets were poorly folded and easily ripped, so I scanned mine, printed them out double sided at appropriate sizes, and laminated and trimmed them so that they line the inside of the storage cup.
If I were to add one thing to this set, it would be a Bag o' Brains from Twilight Creations. Of the twenty-five brain tokens. I would mark a '5' on nine of them. This would provide enough score tokens for a four-player game.

Great game! Bought it randomly, because I wanted an easy game that I could play no matter how many people were over and that's exactly what it is. Everyone who has played it loves it. For a simple game it still has enough complexity to make it fun. I would recommend it to anyone. Especially for the price.
Eat brains. Don't get shotgunned.
In Zombie Dice, you are a zombie. You want braaains – more brains than any of your zombie buddies. The 13 custom dice are your victims. Push your luck to eat their brains, but stop rolling before the shotgun blasts end your turn! Whoever collects 13 brains first wins. Each game takes 10 to 20 minutes and can be taught in a single round.
Each turn, you take three dice from the box and roll them. A brain symbol is worth one point at the end of the round, while footsteps allow you to re roll this particular dice. Shotgun blasts on the other hand are rather bad, cause if you collect three shotgun blasts during your turn, it is over for you and you get no points. After rolling three dice, you may decide if you want to score your current brain collection or if you want to push your luck by grabbing new dice so you have three again and roll once more.

A quick, fun game. Goes well with alcohol.

This game is incredibly easy to learn (it took me 2 minutes) and it is easy to introduce it to others as well. The 13 dice come in a cylindrical container (along with instructions) which makes it a great game to take with you when you go travelling or round to a friends. This game will push your luck as you roll to decide whether you take the points or lose them all. This game can also easily be adapted for fun as a drinking game with friends. Every time someone rolls a shotgun blast they have to take a drink. Rolled 3 blasts and lost your points? Down it ;) People will be much more cautious about losing their points knowing they could be faced with an entire pint to down!

Dice games have never been so intense!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 1, 2021Verified Purchase
This might not seem like much for the price because it's basically a container with 13 dice. But trust me, as a life long gamer, you'll play this often and will never look back.
It's not a long game and a great filler in between big games. It can be quite intense as well. The size is easy enough to travel with and definitely a game you should carry with you if you are hanging around game players.
You're looking to score 13 points before anyone else by pulling out 3 random dice and trying to score brains. After a roll, you can bank you brains, or take another turn, but you always roll 3 dice so you'd put brains to one side, reroll the feet, but also put the shotgun hits to one side as well.. 3 of those and you lose any points you could have banked this turn.
There are green, yellow and red coloured dice, green has 3 brains on it, yellow 2 and red one. The shotgun hits you're trying to avoid, well the red having 3 on it, you're closer to losing your points. So obviously, you don't want to pull red dice as there's a huge risk of rolling what you don't want.
I am one of two people in my circle that have gotten all 13 points on the first turn. A very very proud thing to do, but VERY difficult. You have to hold your nerve and not cavein to banking. It can be quite intense.
Highly recommended. The only problems I have with it is the cylinder box. Finding a place for it on the game shelf is a nightmare. Also, if it came with a dice bag, that would be great, especially for this price.

it's just a bog standard dice game

I bought this having read the incredibly positive reviews about how entertaining etc. other peoples children seem to find this game. What I got for my £13 was a cardboard cup with a picture of a zombie on it and 13 dice with pictures of brains, feet and lightening. Essentially each player rolls the dice until one of them has rolled a certain number of brains. I mean, it's an okay idea for a game, but you could just stick your own pictures on 13 dice for a lot less money. It's easy to play, but not as absorbing as any game that requires strategy to win. I think it's expensive for what it is and my kids preferred Catan by far.

Heard a lot of good thing about zombie dice. Was a bit dubious with a game compromising of a handful of dice and if it could be any good. Watched the table top episode which showed the simplicity and fun that could be had with this game.
Finally decided to part with my cash and bought it last weekend via prime. Arrive next day and me and the gf decoded to try it, 10 games later we were sold. The game is simple enough to teach in minutes but good enough to play for hours.
Her mother and grandma came round later that night for food. We finished and decided to play this. We played around 8 games. Everyone enjoyed it that much I am now back in amazon ordering a set for her 81 year old grandmother. This just proves how simple and good the game is for everyone.

Steve Jackson is a really good place to look for your 'quick to learn games'. Munchkin is definitely one of my favourites and with the amount of additional content it's hard to beat when it comes to replayabilty. Therefore when I've found out that Zombie Dice comes straight from makers of Munchkin I didn't hesitate and didn't waste any time on reading the reviews - just ordered it. It was no mistake - Zombie dice (especially with both DLC) is a fun, quick, easy to learn and (important) really pocket size game. Slightly over dozen die and pure luck is what makes this game exciting. It's an amazing game whenever you feel like you need a break from lengthy and heavy board games but it's also really good to just pack and have a quick game on your way. Absolutely recommend it!
