I thought this movie would be a hatchet job on Steve Jobs, who I idolize. I didn't expect to like it. It is flat-out brilliant., Michael Fassbender stunningly projects Jobs' intensity (and less savory characteristics) in a fierce, running circus of confrontation and nearly inhumane turmoil Loved Kate Winslet as his long-suffering right hand. Seth Rogen as Woz. Wow! So, too, the actresses who play Jobs' out-of-wedlock child and her mother. I'm not a binge watcher or even a movie watcher and I've watched it four times in three weeks. crying every time.

Jobs was a force of nature, a never-to-be-seen again phenomenon. Thank you, Michael Fassbender, Danny Boyle and Aaron Sorkin, for memorializing his white-hot intensity to succeed and overcome.

It's so frustrating to see another movie about Steve Jobs which takes accuracy as second to plot or forming a cohesive narrative. Details are important. What people say is important. Watching it I knew instinctually some of what they were getting wrong. While watching it I had to constantly fact-check for those things I wasn't certain of. I wish Hollywood would stop giving short-shift to real life people and events that took place very recently. If you regularly re-write history people will not know what really happened. Many people don't fact check nor realize when they are being lied to or deceived.

Challenging the Myth of Steve Jobs

What's more important in life, making your vision come true or loving the people around you? That seems to be the central theme of this work, which constantly places Steve Jobs in the back room of his latest press event. While there, they paint an unvarnished picture of a man who many probably think was one of the great inventors of our time as, but who was more like a P. T. Barnum type of figure. This might be a shock for people who have deified this man and believe things like he invented the mouse and the personal computer.

While I find it interesting that they have chosen to demythologize this famous figure, the movie itself has a few drawbacks. The movie itself is kind of more like a play than a movie since the settings rarely change. At times it's engrossing, but other times - since the movie is mostly dialogue driven - the dialogue can seem a little long (like the time he and his secretary are arguing about the house).

Another drawback is the conciliatory attempts of trying to make the movie seem a little more balanced regarding his personality. Throughout the movie, they paint him as tyrannical and almost devoid of feeling, but at the end try to slip in a little humanity in his character. It just felt out of place given the tone they struck throughout the movie.

I don't think Seth Rogan was a good choice for Steve Wozniak. I just have such an association with him as the character he usually plays, that I couldn't see him in this role. The director went with an unconventional choice for his main character, why didn't he do the same for the Steve Wozniak role?

It wasn't about computers; it was about the man. Although I applaud this choice in a way, because it could have quickly devolved into another feel good success story, I think showing the evolution of computers could have added a little bit of spice to the story and made it less of a one-note stage play.

All-in-all, I liked the movie. It was thought provoking and an interesting look at this famous man's life. Be warned, if you're the type of person who thinks this is a movie that heaps praise of the title character, you're in for a big surprise.

I strongly recommend that you see this a movie about a man not a computer company. The screenwriter Aaron Sorkin spoke to Jobs principal work associates and to his daughter, Lisa, to gain a sense of who this man was. The main scenes center around the last minute preparations for three mega presentation launches of computers designed and built under Steve Jobs direction. Clearly he had the desire to create an "insanely great" product (as he called it). We see how this driven personality is destructive to those closest to him, how he denies making wrong decisions. This is the underlying story behind his later success with the iMac, iPod, and iPhone.

The acting is excellent. The scenes give you a true feeling of energy and emotions of the time The impact of the 1984 Super Bowl commercial was shown, simply, and artfully. The characters are alive and believable under the direction of Danny Boyle. the dark personality of Steve Jobs casts a long shadow over these momentous times for the computer industry.

A subplot, the contest between Jobs and Steve Wozniak over the value of an open system computer, versus Jobs preference for a closed system, is shown subtly in Wozniak's favor. However, we know when we buy an Apple product today, accessories must almost always be bought from Apple--a closed system.

Steve Jobs is a fascinating character who changed the world while pissing off a lot of people. Aaron Sorkin is one of the greatest director/screenwriters in the history of Hollywood. The combination is a masterpiece. My only criticism is why the main character looks nothing like Steve Jobs who had a recognizable and iconic look. It detracts from the movie, but only slightly.
