My personal story is the human story involving family, home, bills, and coffee. None of which are that exciting to other souls, so we move on and discuss our common interest in crafted words.
Now I've written quite a lot over the years, sometimes in the form of other people's books as a ghostwriter. But as for my own projects, if I wasn't writing short stories, I typically worked on non-fiction. Until more recently when I came to realize, there's no such thing. Everything we know is fiction.
So if life is fiction, I decided to talk in those terms. And call me surprised when I discovered that I was writing science fiction, since I forgot that a bunch of my favorite works -- like 1984 and The Hitchhiker's Guide and Star Wars -- were science fiction. I decided I was in good company.
With Darwood & Smitty (science fiction) my first really public release, I've followed that with the first in a new children's fantasy series (www.the7bookseries.com) and other titles exploring this mysterious world.

Mom and Dad, best move on to the next happy title if you're still insisting to the youngsters that there's nothing bumping underneath the bed at night. Nothing knocking around in the closet. Oh, because this will undermine your every effort to bury the truth.
But for the child suspicious about why Mom and Dad can't see and hear the shades of night, or for parents seeking the only children's book to explain the darkness, well this is a fortunate find indeed.
Now let's be clear about the term "children's book" -- by this, we should mean "book for the untainted." And you, dear adults, who have kept your wonder and your humor and your memories of what is what, may this book tickle you as much as the child who is old enough for this tale.
For the younger children not yet ready for such detail as this, embrace them. Let them know they are safe when they are loved. But do not lie. Lies do not become us.
For children ready to talk about those bumps and knocks and movements, well ... the author hopes these rhymes and rhythms will help to retain and return the light for many.
10th Anniversary Edition with a new foreword that shows just how much Darwood & Smitty (originally published in 2010) predicted that has already come true by 2020. Among its predictions:
- A president claiming to stand against corruption in the government and specifically claiming a "witch hunt" against him.
- A run on toilet paper. (No pun intended.)
- An elusive figure named "Q."
That's just a taste. There is more here. Much more. Mainstreamers vs. conspiracy nuts. Issues with police. A constitutional crisis.
And of course aliens. Lots and lots of aliens.
So what is Darwood & Smitty about?
It's a tale of two unlikely heroes -- delivery guys for the company with big brown trucks, which in 2045 are floating a few feet off the ground and have an E-squared symbol on the side, standing for Earth Express.
The fact is, they never start out to be heroes. They just have to deliver a package to Earth's president. Hand deliver it, mind you, which is entirely out of protocol. And the package is coming from a fellow in solitary confinement. And as simple a task as that might seem, the delivery folk before them all failed for reasons that Darwood and Smitty soon discover.
After all, the president hasn't gained too many political allies, as his goal is to overthrow the special interests and corruption in New York (Earth's capital, and not just because the author is American). This creates a whole maze of adventure as Darwood and Smitty are thrust into finding answers and overcoming a power greater than all of Earth's forces.
With loads of name brands shamelessly promoted throughout, it's a farce, an adventure, and a political commentary bundled into one fun and gangly pile.
The ultimate self-help / personal growth guide, this is the actual "game manual" for life on Earth. Couched in humor in a sort of "metaphysics meets VR" (virtual reality) setting, this manual is loaded with esoteric nuggets for those with eyes to see, plus 10 Tips on How to Win. Per the back cover:
