If you like McQueen, you'll love this book. If you love McQueen, you'll want to marry this book. Or adopt it. Or at least take it racing, flying, horseback riding or just kick-assing. Because if you want to get close -- real close -- to The King of Cool, this book is your speedway ticket.

It's like hanging out with the man and his coolest of friends: his girlfriends; his wives; his co-stars; his cohorts. The man was a dynamo, and this book is pure dynamite.

Allow me to note that I've enjoyed all of Mr. Terrill's work -- whether it's rock 'n roll, basketball, motion pictures, you name it -- he knows his subject. And when he puts pen to paper, it's like he's putting the pedal to the metal. He floors it -- and this book will floor you.

Some of you may be tempted to skip around, look at all the incredible pictures, that's cool -- but I suggest reading it from page one. You do that and you'll really feel the force of McQueen's life. It unfolds like a great film -- yet, you'll discover, he's even more heroic in real life than on the big screen. (If that's possible!) He was daring, incredibly talented, streetwise, funny, tough and tender. And each story, each tidbit, is told by movie stars, producers, pals, business associates and acquaintances. If you were one of the lucky ones who got to know him, you want to share your stories with others. And this is what this book is all about: sharing.

I was also intrigued with his widow, Barbi McQueen, who wrote the Foreword. She was a supermodel when she met him and became his super companion. She was one of the few who could keep up with McQueen. She rode fast bikes, flew biplanes, rode horses, lived in an airport hangar with him -- and, like her husband, preferred Old Milwaukee to Dom Perignon.

Like other reviewers, I am honored to have been selected to contribute to this book.

This book is the largest and best-selected compilation in existence of Steve McQueen photographs. That alone makes it a worthshile purchase.

And it is so much more!

It is a compilation of fantastic letters, most of them written by persons who knew McQueen. I did not know him, but I am a rabid fan and was fortunate to have a letter I sent the author included in the book.

The letters add to Steve's long and growing legend. They reveal personally how he came from a humble start and made the impossible leap of lighting up the world's movie screens. He was also a bona-fide professional motorcyclist, auto racer, and martial artist, and was one of the wildest of Hollywood's many legends.

I believe the combo of photos and personal letters in this book makes it unique, and adds to its collectible value.

Marshall Terrill is the world's top Steve McQueen author and expert, and has written a number of other outstanding biographies.

I strongly recommend this great book, and all of Marshall's wonderful work. I believe you won't be disappointed, you'll be delighted.

Based on all the 5-star ratings, I'd have to say that I was just the slightest bit let down. I like the book, and I don't regret buying it, but I don't think it deserves worship.
