About Steven Krage
Steven Krage often jokes that if his soul were any older, he'd be dead... and it's not much of an exaggeration!
He started his journey as an artist at the age of ten when he discovered his passion in Opera. Since that moment, he has become an accomplished bass-baritone and pianist/harpsichordist, having performed everywhere from The Chicago Symphony Center to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida and with many of the Chicago Suburbs most prestigious choral groups, including the New Classic Singers. He has also arranged and produced several one-man cabaret shows.
He is a budding composer with over twenty works published for voice, piano, chorus, orchestra, percussion, Sprechstimme, and more.
In addition to his musical ventures, he is an avid Actor. He has recently appeared in productions of Neil Simon's The Odd Couple (Vinnie) and Woody Allen's Don't Drink the Water (Axel Magee.) He was recently a cast member in the final Chicago cast of the Listen to Your Mother project, delivering his essay live at the Atheneum Theatre in Downtown Chicago. He will be appearing as Carmen Ghia in Wheaton Drama's production of Mel Brooks' The Producers from May 26th-June18th.
He is a successful journalist, with writing projects spanning numerous genres, including plays, poetry, blogs, and books. His writing has been featured on BroadwayWorld.com, The Washington Post, and Ravinia.org. His blog, From the Ego of Steven on ChicagoNow.com, has been thrice named as one of the best blogs on the site. His books The Mistakes of a Better World (a book of essays published in 2013), "if only...if only...", The Evolution and Destruction of Stephen King's Teacher Archetype in Rage and Carrie (an extended essay published in 2015) and The Artist's Obligation: An Epitaph (a short novelette published in 2016), are all available on amazon.com. He currently writing a book-length biography of infamous Marx Brothers foil Margaret Dumont.
He is a lauded interviewer, with a style that was described as follows by author January Jones (Thou Shalt Not Whine: The Eleventh Commandment and Jackie, Ari and Jack: The Tragic Love Triangle): "I have done over 500 TV and radio interviews on the Kennedys and Steven's questions are by far the best ones that I've, ever, ever been asked." His verbal skills can be heard weekly on his podcast, The Objectivist and The Vegan, which is available wherever podcasts are found.
He lives in Addison, IL and is proud to work at the Addison Public Library in the Material Management department.
