UPDATE: Comparing to Gaiam similar product, the Gaiam has different texture rollers but the center stick does not bend or flex at all. The texture is painful at time to use and I miss the flex of it compared to THE STICK. These more flat rollers for THE STICK work just fine, the texture is not necessary.
I saw how easy it was to use both the foam roller and The Stick and bought both - however The Stick remains my most used and favorite of the two. After just one week of daily use of The Stick my legs are much more flexible and there is no more IT band stiffness.
Use on the IT band: I begin by applying gentle pressure just above the knee and move on top of the IT band, continuing in an upward rolling gentle pressure until I reach the hip. I've learned to 'feel' the IT band's movement under The Stick and keep just enough pressure to stretch out the IT band including the nasty knot that formed about 6 inches on the band above the knee. It's tricky, but if you keep just enough pressure on the knot you can get it to 'give' as you stretch out the IT band. Look here for information on the IT band: [...]
The Stick has worked so well that I am doing dead lifts with no residual stiffness or pain. I do The Stick after every dead lift session. It feels great! This short stick works best for me on the outer portion of the lower leg, calf, and of course the IT band. It's amazing - my legs feel like new!
My husband and I also use it on each other for areas such as the back of the arm and back of the leg.
So here is my initial reaction to The Stick:
Quality: very simple design, all plastic, but feels very sturdy. Has a really nice solid feel to it with a little bit of weight.
Effectiveness: definitely as advertizes for my calves and thighs. It is much easier to use The Stick on my lower body than a foam roller or a tennis ball. As for upper body, i think its more practical to use a tennis ball and a wall, you get a deeper massage and can pin point a trigger point much better.
Overall a very solid product. I would definitely reccomend The Stick for anyone suffering from something similar to what i am going through, or for just about any active person who takes their recover seriously.

I initially bought the travel stick for DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) as I'd seen plenty of great reviews on YouTube, so that was a given. But where it really came into its own for me is for it's trigger pointing properties.
I'm an ultra runner and though I now stretch regularly, when I was a kid I thought stretching was a waste of time. So surprise, surprise I had an unhealthy amount of scar tissue in my calves, particularly the left one.
When I first tried the stick on my left calf it was agonising, but after 3 weeks of using it daily (about 2 or 3 times a day for 5 mins - schedule it in during advert breaks) I have no pain in my calf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Genuinely amazed!!
My favourite technique is putting the stick on the carpet and then resting my calf on top and rolling myself over it (only try this after a few days, it hurts more!)
The only downside is I bought the travel stick, which as a plus is really portable, but makes rolling your upper back quite difficult without someone else to help.
The original stick is quite a bit longer and therefore you can do it by yourself!
Anyway, I hope this review helps someone! And remember if you're unsure, it still costs less than one physio session! (And I've paid literally thousands to crappy physios!!!)
Regards
Scott
