I ordered the Kindle version of the book a couple of days ago as I needed to make cupcakes for my daughter's school. I have a million vegan cookbooks and knew that I didn't really need another one. However, I have recently fallen in love with the Sticky Fingers Bakery cupcakes sold at my local Whole Foods and thus couldn't resist buying it. Am I ever so glad I did. I made the chocolate love cupcakes a last night with the cream cheese frosting. SOOOOOOO good. What sets this cookbook apart from others is the science instruction. The author helps you to understand how the ingredients work together -- and it really influences what you do when baking (especially vegan baking). The cupcakes were so light and tasty. Absolutely delicious. I really think they were as good as the ones I've bought at the Sticky Fingers bakery in DC and at my local Whole Foods. Because I had to take most of the cupcakes to my daughter's school, my family and I didn't have many to enjoy for ourselves. Needless to say, I will be whipping up another batch just for us in the next day.

PS -- the frosting recipes make A LOT of frosting. I have more than enough for another batch of cupcakes.
PSS -- I was a tad reluctant to use coffee in the chocolate cupcakes as I'm not a coffee drinker. While you can taste it in the batter , you can't taste the coffee in the end product. Also, I used decaf coffee instead of regular (as I didn't want the kiddies to get extra caffeine). I think that was fine.

I am lucky enough to live in DC, and I've made many a trip to Sticky Fingers. It is wonderful to go into a food establishment and not have to be assailed by the odor of dead flesh. Vegans just can't get enough of this store. I flipped when I read that a cookbook was coming out, and I preordered it. The book reads very much like the store appears. It's a bit of odd animal rights activism combined with everybody from yuppies to counter culture folk. And we all come together for phenomenal baked goods. I've only tried a couple of the recipes so far, and they are just as good as the variety whipped up in the store. I will be trying a cake next. My two grandsons' birthday cakes have all come from Sticky Fingers, and they were works of art. I'm anxious to see whether I can get close to the perfection that those cakes have been. The best thing that this cookbook will do is to put a stop to the question that all of us vegans have faced: "Don't you miss all that food you can't eat?"

Just made the vanilla cake with the strawberry daiquiri icing. It was absolutely to die for!

I have made about 10 things from this cookbook and was prepared to write a really good review of it here until reading the one about blueberry pie. And, sure enough, the recipe is all sorts of messed up. But, after this summer making a lot of pies, I now know that 2 cups of blueberries is not nearly enough for a 9" double-crust pie. You need 6 cups or 3 times what the recipe calls for. But, if I had never made blueberry pie, that's where I would be griping. Just as the author asks you to read the recipe several times, she means HER recipes too. Oftentimes, cookbooks go right through to publishing without having a knowledgeable proofreader or even testers. This happens in knitting books as well. I can only imagine that something like this happened because Sticky Fingers in DC is phenomenal.

From my experiences making the cakes in the book, they are extraordinary. However, the volumes are a little off. The cakes need to be a little taller to fit into a 9" cake pan versus an 8" one. I had to use more frosting to make the cake look a bit taller. The ratios are all good though.

The whoopies section are delicious but the batter wasn't completely smooth, a little too bumpy in appearance and do not look like the Amish ones at the farmer's market. They tasted really good though.

The muffins I made are perfect and have the right amount of volume in each cup.

I think this cookbook could do with a makeover and have a photo made for EVERY SINGLE RECIPE so that the author and the publisher know what the heck it looks like when it's done.

I have been struggling to bake delicious things since I became a vegan almost two years ago. This book has brought all my confidence back. I have made the brownies, chocolate cake, chocolate frosting, peanut butter frosting, chocolate ganache, vanilla cake and vanilla frosting. All have turned out AMAZING.
The chocolate cake recipe is especially great. I would recommend making sure you use the brands she says and measuring by weight with a kitchen scale. These are scaled down recipes from what she makes in a bakery so measuring by weight is much more precise.

I was very disappointed with this cookbook. I was eager to get it and try out some new recipes, but this was not what I was looking for. The recipes are pretty much regular recipes just using fake butter, egg replacers, cream cheeses, etc. I was looking for recipes that use real ingredients but result in vegan desserts (ex. Cashew cheesecake, using other types of oils in place of butter, flax eggs, etc) These recipes just require you to buy some name brand processed ingredients. I extremely altered a few recipes to meet my needs before donating this book to the thrift store.

So as you can see, it's the gift that keeps on giving- TO MY STOMACH! (cue maniacal laughter) So far she's made several of the cookies (and modified them to our liking) and they are amazing! The sweet and salty cookies are delicious in their surreptitious evil, hiding in my cupboard, calling me... calling me... BOW DOWN TO YOUR NEW COOKIE MASTERS!

I can hardly wait to have my precious Cowvins again, just delicious... oh yeah, great recipe book.

Well, I am saying it's awful due to the fact I have tried many of the cupcakes, and the icings and the cakes. The spong cake tastes kind of ok, but they do not rise enough to make a cake with icing. Talking about Icing. all of her icing is runny like water and you can not pip them at all. I live in the uk so I am not sure if the ingredients are muh different than the ones on the USA as the book is from, but I wished I never brought this book. God only know how she won cupcake wars twice.
