Editorial Reviews
To celebrate the 35th anniversary of "Love Will Tear Us Apart" on June 27th, Rhino is pleased to announce the re-issue of Still as a 2LP set on heavyweight 180-gram vinyl. Each design replicates the original in painstaking detail, including the gatefold covers used for Still and Substance. The music heard on the albums was remastered in 2007 when Rhino introduced expanded versions of the albums.

This Joy Division collection is the one recording with a kick-ass version of "The Kill. " This track is the reason I purchased Still. This version of "The Kill" is completely different from "The Kill" off of the Warsaw LP. Other great tracks include "Ice Age" and "Walked In Line. " There's also a 9+ minute live cover of the Velvet Underground's "Sister Ray."
Unfortunately, the CD does not include another of my favorite Joy Division songs, "24 Hours;" the cassette does contain this track, if you happen to find it.

Back in the early 80's I owned the original of this album, with the hessian cover. back then the hessian cover version was limited to 5000 copies, I believe the reissue is limited to less than that so invariably could end up being worth more in the long term. About 15 years ago I sold my hifi system, and then started EBay'ing and bootsale'ing my record collection. My Joy division collection was sold on EBay including my hessian Still. Fast forward to last year, and my son is given a record player..... I immediately got interested and by Christmas 2017 had bought another hifi system (A Kenwood M85)..... I miss vinyl, and realise now that it is better than CD in many ways.
I've started to replace some records that hold a lot of memories for me, and Joy Divisions Still was top of my list. I was initially going to buy a standard 180gm reissue when I saw this copy for sale. It was expensive, but I decided to pull the trigger and buy it..... i'm glad I did.
It's exactly the same as the originals, except the reissue is pressed on better quality vinyl (The original was pressed on flimsy early 80's vinyl). It's identical right down to the run out groove markings.
Audio wise, the sound is excellent. Yes it's a digital remaster, and yes it could have been done on an analogue remastering machine but to my ears it sounds just fine. The hessian cover is exactly the same, and the white ribbon is nice and pristine, unlike my old one which had started fraying. we all know the songs on this album, so I won't start discussing the songs as such, except to say that the remastering is great, and in particular certain songs stand out for me.... Twenty Four Hours sounds more alive to me, as does Transmission.. In fact the whole album seems to have been given a new lease of life. I can only suspect that the standard cover reissue of Still is the same as mine, so please buy with confidence.... This was Ian Curtis's swan song, the live tracks recorded at Joy Divisions last ever concert. A fitting epitaph to a brilliant but troubled song writer.
A must have for all fans of this dark punk period.
