After a practice she & 2 teammates go out for some drinks & they see another teammate with someone, not his wife acting very cozy. Next morning he's found dead, nail gun, shot the back of the head.
He was a wealthy developer who cleared the land left no trees. Very difficult man especially with Bill Stavik foreman, who stood up for the workers. He finds the body.
Elaine decides after hearing rumor of who died & where she drives to the development, stops by a car park outside crime scene tape. She owns her window to find out if was true. Turns out it was Bill Stavcik. Many suspects get arrested & then released. But Elaine has started seeing Bill. He is arrested for murder & not longer after Elaine is arrested too.
Elaine is put on leave by school, denied playing on Rockettes team. While out on bail, with an excellent attorney. She decides the only one who can solve the murder is her (against lawyers advice). So much more happens in this book, danger, mystery & can she solve the case to clear she & Bill? Enjoy reading this book.
A romance starts between Bill and Lanie which makes the police more suspicious of them. Lanie wants to clear them and find the real murderer so starts to investigate.
I was looking for something light and amusing and that's what I got in this murder mystery. When an author takes the time to get the reader to feel an connection with their characters - any sort of connection - that author has succeeded in one of the most difficult tasks they can have. Judith Arnold has done just that. Her characters are real in a world that is both familiar and different from the ones most readers are used to. I liked that Lanie was a mature woman who had experience with life. What I couldn't understand in this story was how Lanie could figure out who the killer was but the police couldn't. OK, the officer in charge of this case was not too bright so it didn't take much to see he wasn't going to solve this case.
I loved that I was surprised to find out who the murderer was.
