Bruce Levingston is a gifted pianist...these performances compete with any other I have heard...the performances are wonderful! --Audiophile Audition

...as if by magic, Levingston locates the pulse of each new track so unerringly ...luminous...deeply poetic...unabashedly gorgeous lyricism. --Gramophone Magazine

Exquisite colours and haunting cadences highlight the remarkable solo performances of American pianist Bruce Levingston in Still Sound. --The Whole Note

I need to write a fuller review for Bruce Levingston - an amazing pianist. Upon writing this review, I notice that another reviewer has written that his playing is "cosmic", before questioning the term as being cliched. In Levingston's case I don't think it is - and here's why.

David Bowie died yesterday. Bowie was an artist I didn't follow particularly closely, but I did have a few memories irrevocably connected to some of his songs. Hearing the news, I didn't load Ziggy Stardust into the player - I loaded this disc, Still Sound.

Levingston's playing, his selection of music (particularly the opening tracks with Part's Variations) are simply magisterial - they beg the listener to contemplate the greater mysteries of life. And death.

Levingston continue's with Satie's Gymnopedie: No. 2. Lent et triste - "slow and sad" - rather than the usual No. 1. It is simply brilliant.

The mood continues Levingston's brilliant choices for musical juxtaposition: Schubert's Impromptu in Ab min, Chopin's Nocturn in Bb min, as well as the modern works by Bolcom, Gross, and more Satie. The album could have been titled "Synergy", as the whole is equal to far more than the sum of its parts.

Levingston is further aided by a recording of extraordinary high audiophile quality. This is one Levingston recording I purchased immediately following a purchase of Heavy Sleep (I bought four Levingston recordings, so impressed was I with his musical and programming talents).
et al.
Bruce Levingston is one of the great pianists of the 21st century. I urge you to consider purchasing this disc - or any of his other recordings. Your musical horizons will be broadened, and your enjoyment will be immense.

Mr. Levingston's playing is cosmic. Cliché? His performances lift me up and help me understand what genius Pärt, Satie, and the rest have imparted to the world. Do some sampling and I hope you will agree.
