This was a slow paced read, but very fulfilling and emotional. They may not have gotten their happily ever after when they were eighteen, but seeing them get it at the end was, by far, well worth the wait.
This is a heartfelt romance that is filled with pain, longing, loss, reconnection, and a bond so strong it is unbreakable. Add in strong family, and scenes of riding jorses, and each other, and you have the perfectly written romance that will leave your heart smiling with satisfaction.
This is the second book I've read by Devon and I plan to read more of his work.
In “Still Your Guy”, he takes the second-chance trope, and turns it on it’s head. Mason and Chase were married before it was legal to do so. They separated a while after. Now, thanks to the Supreme Court decision legalizing Same-Sex Marriage, their marriage is now legal, and yet they lead separate lives on opposite sides of the country. Mason’s sisters impending wedding acts as the impetus to bring Chase home.
From the first page, you know these two still love each other. Their emotions are raw and just below the surface. They almost literally ache for each other, but so much time has passed each wonders how they can make it work.
Devon asks a question in this book that I have never seen in a second-chance book: You loved me then, but can you love the person I’ve become? It’s this question that permeates the book, and speaks to the change all of us experience as we grow older. We all change. Can the people that are important to us accept that change, or will they leave us behind?
This book very quickly became my favorite of his solo work. There’s just so much character and emotional depth that you find you have to see how it all plays out.
Mason Finley and Chase Rogan meet as young boys working together at the Finley dairy farm and that friendship blossoms into love as the boys grow older. They marry at 18, idealistically thinking nothing is ever going to tear them apart, but as it often does, real life gets in the way. Chase needs to follow his dreams and heads out to Los Angeles to become a lawyer, while Mason stays behind to run the family farm. They quickly realize that the distance is too great and Chase breaks it off. When Chase comes back to visit 11 years later to help plan his Mason's sister's wedding, both men quickly realize the love they shared is as strong as ever. The sparks fly and they can't ignore the intense desire they have for each other. Chase is torn between his new life and his undying love for Mason. Mason doesn't want to let go again but can he convince Chase that he's still his guy?
I truly loved this book. It has everything you've come to expect from a Devon novel-humor, happiness, sadness, and of course some of the hottest sex scenes ever written. But Mr. McCormack has raised the bar with Still Your Guy. There's a new depth and beauty to his writing that blows me away. I can't recommend this book highly enough!!
