A lovely guide, much in the style of the Audubon ID books with coloration breaks for species/categories.
Lovely, heavy-duty full-gloss pages that are nice and durable, the heavier-type "paperback" cover with a really nice and durable spine and "thick" amount of binding per page. Definitely high quality - and high enough quality to double check what I paid, because I would expect to pay much more for that quality, especially in a niche area and for a "beginner's" guide.
It's full of images, range maps for each species, and even the odd tips to go with general information.
My family is animal lovers and already knew some to a fair bit about bats (it was a "now" present to go with a "we'll work on this" bat house) but there were also things we didn't know even for the species right here in our backyards.
The next time I want a "guide" to something, I will definitely turn to Stokes. This one was definitely a winner.
