Trish and Josh's journey is told chronologically and in extensive detail. I thought the story would have had the same impact had it been shorter, but there may have been reasons the author didn't want to leave anything out. Regardless, it is worth a read, especially if you are a dog lover.
Having said that, I was not 20 pages into this book before I knew I would never get through it.
This tale starts with the husband's discovery that their dog has disappeared from the couple's deck. He calls his wife (the author) who is at work and the drama begins. She drops everything at work and races home, "disregarding stop signs" along the way, "gunning the engine", and generally freaking out completely and making the roads safe for no one. Turns out a neighbor witnessed the dog being stolen from their yard. Even the author's description of how the neighbor informed them - by "shrieking" at them out of her window - is over the top. I hear the word "shriek" and I'm picturing Texas Chainsaw Massacre. She probably called to them, maybe even yelled, but shriek? From there, we are given a blow-by-blow account of their search for this dog. I could have tolerated this, but either the author is the world's biggest drama queen or she is making herself sound like one, hoping to tug on our heartstrings. Every minute of every day is spent in "panic" and "anxiety" over the dog's disappearance. She doesn't sleep, eat, or work. And she doesn't seem to understand how her husband can go on living during this "tragedy". Yes, she repeatedly calls it that. Tragedy. She doesn't get how he can possibly go to work.Read more ›
