While the basic premise for the book of a child looking for the murderer of their parent(s) or wanting to clear their name with an underling romance theme has been done before, I found the mix of elements [mystery, suspense, and romance] for this book to be an intriguing read.
The book is riddled with secrets each of the characters are keeping from one another. Crystal and Ruby are sisters who have embarked on a life of crime in order to eventually regain the lives they once had, they’re perpetually looking for evidence to accomplish their goal.
My heart almost skipped a beat when Crystal gets thrusted into a blind date with Kade, the detective who is investigating the crimes she has committed with her sister. At the same time Kade is searching for some way to forgive himself for the death of one of his former partners.
Paul, Kade’s new partner is engaged to marry Ruby, Crystal’s sister; how’s that for a coincidence.
Ms. Cooper, in her book, seems to be peeling the various layers of an onion which the storyline contains in the almost vivid history of her characters as she brings them up to the present with the emotions they’ve felt she has given her readers.
The interaction between Crystal and Kade is quite intense at times, without having any real sexual scenes, which I feel wouldn’t have added anything to the storyline; and am grateful for its elimination.
It is for the above I’m giving Stolen Hearts 5 STARS.
Both sisters long to find the evidence they have planned their whole lives for and then out of nowhere Crystal is thrown into a blind date with Kade, a private investigator trying hide his past while also trying to cope with the death of his last partner.
I really enjoyed this story as it was full of mystery, suspense and a great romance that developed between Crystal and Kade. It was a clean romance as there was not much graphic content aside from some heated kissing but it fit well with the plot line. We watched the sisters as they finally neared their ending goal and how they were finally beginning to believe they would one day be free of their thieving ways in order to live happy normal lives.
I loved watching how Ruby and Crystal conducted themselves around the guys to try and keep their secret while also continuing to do their job. I did find it very unbelievable that Crystal would simply allow Kade to attend her catering business when she knew she would be stealing files. It just seemed should could have simply said no so that she wouldn’t have to worry him being a nuisance.
I did find their father to be quite an odd character in the book. He did not seem like a very loving or caring father especially considering he rarely saw the girls.Read more ›
I understand Crystal’s motivation in doing what she does. I think if I was in her shoes there isn’t much I wouldn’t do to get closure for my family. The fact she is a thief doesn’t bother me in the least. Kade is working undercover to solve the string of thefts. Psychologically he is damaged, and needs a new start. When he is essentially set up on a blind date with Crystal he is immediately attracted to her, but I was curious to see what would happen between them when it was revealed who they really are.
Cooper’s story has a really exciting premise. A thief and a cop fall for each other. That is going to bring about a lot of conflicting, emotion, and drama on its own. I like the way Cooper made it about more than stealing. This is deeply personal for the two women. It is about justice, and clearing their family’s good name. I was hoping for a little more chemistry between Crystal and Kade. I was feeling the attraction, but I thought there could have been more intensity between them. Over all I did like the read and I would read more by Cooper in the future.

>I received this book from the author and from Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock. I am an independent reviewer. This is the first book in the Hearts series.
>Kade is an investigator hiding from his past. He feels responsible for the death of his partner and early in life, his friend. He is under cover in a new town, trying to help capture a thief targeting a rich businessman and his associates. Kade's new partner, Paul, introduces Kade to Crystal and her sister, Paul's fiancé, Ruby.
>Lies abound in this story. Kade hides the fact he works for the police. Crystal and Ruby hide the fact they are the thieves. Even Paul has a few secrets. I am unsure of the "uncles" and their reasons for caring and training the girls in revenge for, like, their whole lives. The line between good and bad, right and wrong, was very blurry.
>The story was fast paced, fairly believable and funny. Using the flu as a cover for a gunshot wound was pretty funny. I am unsure as to what the rest of the series will be about, but the story is sure to be surprising.
>This book is recommended for an adult audience. This story had some fairly hot, but not scorching, scenes.
