About the Author
Life is what you make it and nothing more. This is something I had to come to terms with as I struggled to find my place in this world. I was born with a learning disability and no one could understand me but my older brother until I was almost eight years old. I was told my multiple teachers and school councilors that I was not going to graduate high school unless I went into a special program. In 2001 I proved them all wrong by graduating with a 3.5 and being accepted into Cal State University, Pomona. Following the bad advice of my councilor I majored in animal science and after two years I had to drop out. For a while I wondered aimlessly and became homeless before I decided to give school one more try. Enrolling at Fullerton College I picked journalism to major in, why not I loved to read and write. In 2008 I graduated from California State University, Fullerton with my B.A. in Communication with an emphasis on journalism. Of course life happens and I had to take a year off of everything to take care of my mom and younger brother. I thought I would never recover and would forever play catch up but then my older brother sat me down and told me that I needed to pursue my own dreams. So I started a blog and started posting reviews. It was fun but I was still missing something. When author Valerie Twombly suggested I try my hand at writing I was skeptical that anyone would want to read stories from my head. I love fantasy and I fall in love with the most unique heroes. So between reading, working and taking care of my younger brother, I wrote my first novel and in 2014 I hit publish. So I would like to tell those who have been told that they will never amount to anything that there is hope. You are only held down by your own limitations. Reach for what you want and fight to hold on to it.

It was a pretty quick read, and definitely worth while. A little sexy time with a sexy horned boy didn't hurt, either hehe.
I would recommend this to adult fantasy lovers.
Bob says: 4 platypires!
In present-day, we meet Milcah, who hates everything about her life. She’s poor, lives in a rundown apartment, works a low-paying job, considers herself unattractive, and is alone. The woman Milcah believed was her mother passed away leaving her with no one except her lone friend, Mary. After graduation, Mary moves to the next town over and attends college. Milcah stays put, unable to move away for some reason that escapes her. She also doesn’t understand her fascination with gargoyles, but they are very real to her. During one of their infrequent get-togethers, Mary convinces Milcah to take a vacation.
On her way to the Grand Canyon, Milcah sees car trouble as just another sign of how bad her life is. But, as she enters the abandoned town of Beacon, Milcah is heading towards her destiny. She will find out that gargoyles are real, one is her fated mated, and the true origins of her mystical birth. Milcah will also find out that along with four women she’s yet to meet, they hold the balance of good and evil…and the fate of the world in their hands.
A great beginning to an amazing journey!
I loved the mythos Ms Woods created, very detailed and original. I found Jarod, the male lead, very endearing and I can see why Milcah would fall for him. I look forward to book 2 and more reveal of the world beyond Stone Guardian.
This is such an amazing debut book! The backstory for how all of the different creatures and humans is just wonderful. Milcah is such a strong character and you just want to see her find happiness and all the answers to all the secrets in her life. I really enjoyed Jarod too , I believe he will finally take away Milcah's loneliness and protect her too. This authors world is so rich and in depth that you would love to find your way there and when the book ends you are sad because you don't want to leave. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series so I can go back!
