But the legend of the dog wearing hob-nailed boots just won't die in my family now. Especially with the way my dad did the voice.
I'm not sure if this story would fly these days, some overly reactionary types may say it espouses violence. I think it would be better to bring it back as a humor/throwback type of book. Perhaps Sam L. Jackson could narrate? Personally I'm feeling Morgan Freeman for this, though. As long as he does a gruff, "LOVE ME," voice for the dog.
BTW: I doubt that kids would assume it is OK to be kicked just because someone needs love. Give children a little more credit than that.
