Faroe's prose is often poetic. In most places this enhances the experience (I recommend reading your favorite parts aloud, just for the fun of it). In a few places, the transition from poetic to standard prose struck me as a bit rough and pulled me out of the story. This is just a personal preference, however, and if you're a faster reader than I am it probably won't bother you.
In short -- a lovely, fun, thoughtful allegory. Can't wait to see what he comes out with next.
I can't wait to read more from this author.
If you are looking for a fairy tale written the way a fairy tale should, this is the book for you. Though it is a quick read it is full of wonder, despair, anger, hope, love, violence, and joy. The author captures his world and lets the reader become immersed within it.
There is also great bonus content with chapters from Faroe's next book which I also look forward to reading and enjoying.
Do your imagination a favor and give this book a read.
This is a fairy tale in the truest sense. The language is beautiful, in fact it could be described as lyrical at times. Unlike most stories I get from indie publishers, this story is edited in a superb fashion. Such a nice change.
It is hard to say anything without it being a spoiler. So, I will just say this story is a fight between good and evil without a lot of violence, there is plenty of magic in it but maybe not the kind you are used to seeing, and there is romance but no sex. A great tale for all ages. I highly recommend this one to fans of fantasy or fairy tales.
-the use of antiquated prose styling in a modern piece
-the antiquated prose can be hard to get through sometimes
-characters aren't developed too far (due to genre and length) and at times seem stilted
-at times, especially toward the end, it was hard to tell who was who when speaking
Overall, it was an enjoyable piece, but because I was intrigued by it, I wished it was developed into a longer piece with more novelistic stylings.
