I grade off a couple of things: 1st, was I entertained-yes. 2nd did plot flow with theme-yes. 3rd, where there oddities that belonged or not... Unfortunately.
I will probably read again as I did enjoy the story, it was just one thing my analytical brain was unable to let go of, Maeve personality flips. See below if you want to read more, otherwise it's a good book and contributes to theme and builds to finale.
My character critique:
I didnt give 5 stars because there was a lack of character consistency with Mae. First she is "innocent" and nervous gamer/antique/computer programmer who hides away from the real world who has taken 3 yrs to catalog antiques in one house. Then she is a nerd who all the sudden is taking on the personality of Cyn killing baddies-but she has no training or reason to have shooting skills- then we flip back into self-conscious nerd again. No mention of why she would even need that level of self defense training and no history to build her character off of.
Dragan was actually well developed, and had historic events that led to him being the way he is. He did follow theme of the other 3 stone warriors of being very accepting and welcoming of their rescuer very quickly, but they had a little time to adjust.
I was entertained, except for the weird first fight scene..should've just let Dragan do his thing, it would've matched Mae character more.
