Storyline: The story, as I mentioned, is fantasy -- but is presented in a way that melds with modern reality. The author does a great job in developing the plot; she keeps you guessing with a tease here and there, making it hard to put the book down... you *need* to know what happens next. You'll go through a full range of emotion reading this one!
Characters: The characters are well developed. None is without their strengths and flaws, and all are described is such wonderful detail that I feel like I would recognize them if I passed them on the street.
If there was one thing I had trouble with, it was with some of the unusual names and words in the book. I understand the need for them, and the use of them reminded me of some of Tolkein's works and make perfect sense in the genre.
Seeing "Book One" on the cover had me a little nervous... sometimes that just means the author didn't finish the story, but that's not the case here. There is a great conclusion... and the tease of more to come. I'm really looking forward to Book Two!
Fantasy is my first love in books and this book should certainly be up there with the great books in this genre as it has everything a perfect book needs, fantasy, magic intrigue, twist and turns, deception, revenge love and villains that you love to hate.
The characters are so well written that even when you put the book down you can't! because if your like me you will spend your time wondering 'where they are going?' 'what the are doing?' and 'who is plotting against whom?' You pick up the book again the next thing you know it's 3 am and your going to need string coffee to get through the next day until you can pick the book up again.
The characters are lovable, relatable and show character development throughout the book as the story progresses. I love Taryn, she is a young strong girl who has a lot to deal with she has come to Aelinae, after the death of her grandfather, who sheltered her by not telling of the world that she was born into she now has to deal with a new family, a betrothed and a prophecy that she is told she will fulfill.
Marrisa and Zakiel are my favorite characters but then I'm always attracted to the bad guys they always intrigue me more. I can't wait to see what it's store for all your characters in the next installment of Song Of The Swords Series.
What amazes me about this book is the authors imagination and originality of the story. The story has a lot of depth to it and everything is explained well and is easy to visualize but the glossary of terms at the back is very helpful and in depth if you aren't used to fantasy novels as a lot can happen.
Tamari Etherton is an extremely talented author whose career I will watch closely and I am looking forward to reading all her books. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if somewhere in the future that The Stones Of Kaldaar would be made into a movie or tv series. So go and start this book now, you won't be disappointed. I promise!
First, a bit about the author: Tameri Etherton is the author of the Song of the Swords fantasy series. She also writes steamy romance under the name Tameri Tiara. Tameri writes “kickass heroines” and “hot heroes” (my favorite romantic combo!)
Genre: Epic Fantasy
Author: Tameri Etherton
Title: The Stones of Kaldaar (Song of the Swords #1)
The Stones of Kaldaar is an epic fantasy about a woman named Taryn and her role in Aelinae’s future. She was raised on Earth without knowledge of who or what she was. She and her guardian traveled to her birth planet. Between the dark and light, one woman needs to decide who she is and what she stands for.
I loved this story.
About Aelinae – and one of the reasons I’m ranking this as a 5 star – is because of the maps and details in the novel and online. You can find Aelinae World Maps on her website. Call me a dragon geek, but ever since the Hobbit, I have a fondness for tracing character movements through maps and create my own maps for my universes. It adds something concrete to the fantastic and makes it feel more real.
If you love fantasy because of the deep world building and the fantastic characters, go read this book.
My rating: Five stars. Epic fantasy with romance and an whole new world to explore! I will read this again!
I thoroughly enjoyed escaping with this book. It’s an excellent fantasy read. Tameri Etherton has masterfully crafted a mystical world along with rich, vibrant characters, all shackled to limits and flaws making them relatable. The author has a beautiful story style that draws the reader right in. I found this book rather impossible to put down and I can’t wait for the next one in the series. I hope there is more of Taryn and Rhoane.
This is an amazing story and I highly recommend it.
