About the Author
Edward Kent began his "career" as a writer after being unceremoniously laid off by his employer in 2010. With three young kids of his own at the time and being quite "familiar" with the many types of children's books, he sought to create a series of educational stories whose main character is a friendly boy zombie named Ed. As Kent wrote more Zombie Ed books, he began exploring deeper, and more socially relevant issues, such as divorce, self-esteem, death and bullying. The bullying topic was brought about by the tragic suicide of a Buffalo, NY boy, who after much cyber bullying, decided death was his only escape. Kent felt that Zombie Ed was a perfect protagonist, since he wasn't a stereotype, but a fictional character that everyone could relate to. Kent continues to look for current social topics for his Zombie Ed series. Titles in the Zombie Ed children’s book series include: • Zombie Ed Knows His ABC’s! • Zombie Ed Counts To Twenty! • Zombie Ed Loves Halloween! • Zombie Ed Thinks School Is Cool! • What’s A Zombie To Do. When His House Is Split In 2? • Stop Bullying Me! I’m A Zombie. So What? • An Empty Space In Class • What’s So Great About Me? I’m Nothing. Just a Zombie! After publishing a few of the Zombie Ed books, Kent got an itch to do something a little more advanced. He wanted to stick with zombie characters, but in a more grown up fashion. His first novel, in a planned young adult trilogy, Ed Undead: The Chronicles of a Teenage Zombie, found the protagonist, Ed Kirk, awaking to a new zombie infested world, with the virus slowly taking over his body. He tries to escape his small town after finding his girlfriend, Lisa Jane. They search for help, all the while being hunted by a mysterious figure who wants Ed for his own purposes. The second novel in the series, Ed Undead: Dead Like Me, published in 2014, picks up where the first book left off. Ed and Lisa Jane, are now living day by day, trying to make it to Canada, where there is a promise of hope at the CDC. By now, the virus has taken a stronger hold of Ed's body and the “zombification” process has advanced, spurring Ed to make some hard choices. Kent is currently working on the third and final book, Ed Undead: Journey's End, coming December 2017. What will happen to Ed is anybody's guess? You'll have to read all 3 novels to find out! Ed has just started at a new school, is making friends, and seems happy. Except for the boy named Bart, who does not like Ed because he's different. For you see, Ed's a zombie! Ed must now confront the bully to prove that he is really no different than anybody else as he stands up for zombies and other children everywhere!
About the Author:
Edward Kent resides in the Buffalo suburb of West Seneca, in Western New York, with my beautiful wife Dannielle, and our kids Cordelia, Keifer and Brody. With the kids starting elementary school, I find myself once again immersed in education, and this has inspired me to create a series of books with my character Zombie Ed. I hope he will provide much fun and learning to all the "little zombies" that enjoy reading about him as I do writing about him! I think the subject of bullying is on everyone's radar as of late. You can't go a day without hearing something related to bullying in the news. It is really sad that some children and adults will stoop to a level like that. But the author has tackled the issue head on in his book Stop Bullying Me! I'm a zombie, so what?. This books main character is Ed and he is a little boy that is just like everyone else except he is a zombie.
In the book, Ed tries to fit in the best he can but there is always that one bad apple that doesn't appreciate anyone different and has to prove to everyone that persons faults. So enter the bully at large, Bart. Bart is like any other typical bully. And EVERYONE is afraid of him so none of Ed's friends jump in to help. But undeterred, Ed decides to face Bart on his own.
This story is a pure delight and helps children to understand you can and should stand up to those bullies to stop them dead in their tracks. This book was written and illustrated by Edward Kent. The author has also included some review questions in the back of the book. This is one in a series of Zombie Ed books you can go to the authors website for more information.
