Review

"Stop. Go. Quilt. Sew! is a fun book of sewing projects for the little (and not so little) boys in your life.  All of the projects revolve around the theme of traffic signs, which makes for a unique and cohesive collection of projects for all skill levels." --Quilt Dad

quiltdad.com/2012/08/stop-go-quilt-sew-blog-tour-giveaway.html

"Everyone in the Sewing Universe is always talking about how there are never enough "boy/guy/dude" quilts and projects, so Angela decided to whip up some pretty cool designs here that pretty much would work for any man or boy cave out there. And what I like most about these projects? Besides their strong graphic element?  They are scrappy!!" -- Blue Nickel Studios

bluenickelstudios.com/?p=4783

Author Angela Yosten has put together a variety of projects for the little men in your life, with a traffic theme throughout. From the Traffic Light Wallhanging to the Speed Limit Pillow, from the Do Not Enter Messenger Bag to the Cross Guard Towels, you will surely find something to make.
(Quiltmaker Magazine, July 30, 2012)

It's one of the most common questions we hear about sewing projects, 'Why aren't there more projects for boys?!' Our friend, Angela Yosten has come to the rescue with a new book that has 12 great projects, each with a personalized traffic sign/signal theme.
(Sew4home.com, 10/01/12)

Yosten’s transporation-themed designs were inspired by her son’s love of toy cars—and the lack of quilting and sewing projects appropriate for boys. Each project uses a scrap applique technique that incorporates strips of scrap fabric (or, optionally, pre-cut strips) and fusible web. There’s plenty of variety, including home décor items as well as quilts, a Route 66-inspired T-shirt, and a sleeping bag. VERDICT Like the road signs they emulate, Yosten’s designs are bold and graphic, and projects targeted to school-age and teen boys are a rarity in the quilting world. These designs aren’t just for boys, though—the techniques and styles used could easily be adapted for a variety of modern scrap applique projects.

(Library Journal, August 2012)

A perfect concept for little and big guys. Stop. Go. Quilt. Sew! by Angela Yosten is full of perfect projects for big and little guys. There are 12 total—big-size quilts, pillows, shirts and even a messenger bag—all using a 'traffic' theme with lots of road signs. Stop, speed limits, no u-turns, do not enter and slow are all so appropriate for fast-paced, car-loving boys of all ages. What a clever concept! Any mom or grandmom will enjoy using this book to make special gifts for that special guy.
(American Quilt Retailer, 11/1/12)

Use machine- and reverse-applique methods to make 12 traffic-stopping projects. Learn the rules of the road to produce a quilt, pillows, messenger bag, wall art, shower curtain, and more for boys to enjoy. (Quilts & More, Spring 2013)

It is nice to have quilts that you can make for the male members of your family or friends, many times quilting projects are very feminine. These are quilting projects for an experienced quilter. Do not think that a young boy, unless he is a very talented quilter will be able to make these.
At some points the explanations are even a bit confusing unless one has more quilting experience. Reverse appliques are an example, where the explanation would not be for a beginning sewer. There is a good list of tools needed and an excellent use of a scrap material bucket.

The templates are actual size, including some fold out templates - which is excellent. The projects include such items as; a traffic light quilt, made for wall-hanging, a no parking duvet cover, a do not enter messenger bag. We especially liked the slow nap sack and the railroad crossing shower curtain.

While I don't have any little boys, I found the projects in this book to be fun and enticing. Many of them are easy to complete. I love how graphic the street signs are and quilting them into projects was too much fun!
