It is spring training and Drew is having some trouble with his game. In addition, his bad-boy reputation and recent shenanigans have left a sour taste with the team's management and the general public. So much so, that he is in danger of losing his position to an aspiring minor league player. Luckily, Drew's agent hires Image Masters, a top-notch organization that specializes in image revamping.
Jessica has been out of the workforce since her husband's death. Now a year later, she is back at Image Masters ready to pick-up where she left off. She is one of the best spin-doctors in the business, and that is why Drew gets assigned to her. Jessica has her work cut out for her, and the situation only worsens when one of Drew's teammates tells a group of reporters that Jessica is his fiancee. Additionally, one reporter in particular has made it his mission to ruin Drew.
Drew is an amazing character. His hardships during his childhood were incomprehensible and yet he believes what he went through was completely his fault. Ms. Klasky paints Drew to be a good-looking, talented and sensitive guy, who just needs a lucky break. I really liked him.
Jessica is an extremely smart woman that knows her job really well. She can solve any problem that is thrown at her while maintaining an amazing strength and grace. She is beautiful both inside and out.
This is a terrific story that kept me thoroughly engaged from start to finish. I loved the way Ms. Klasky developed the romance between Drew and Jessica, by taking baby steps. Their attraction evolved into a heated love affair with a wonderful ending that I will remember for a long time.

This is the sixth of Mindy Klasky’s Diamond Brides series. In each novella she takes a different position on a fictional baseball team (The Raleigh Rockets) and weaves a story around that player. In each case she takes contemporary issue of situation and weaves that into the story. While these will meet with approval of all faithful to the genre (introduction, situation, conflict and happy ending) they still feel fresh.
Mindy has a light hand with a story and these are written to be to both entertaining and a quick read. Most of the series weigh in at about a hundred pages. While you would expect in the novella format for the characters to be less defined you would be wrong. Ms. Klasky is very skilled at what she does and the characters are rich and well defined. The stories are told in a straight forward fashion that makes them not only imminently readable but also pleasantly enjoyable. The only problem with these that I can find is when you are finished you have to wait for the next story and you will want to read the next story.
The basic story of this book is that a troubled short stop finds that he is attracted to the image consultant assigned to fix his latest problem. There would be no story if this was smooth process and rest assured there are plenty of twists and few plot elements you probably won’t expect but it will all come together in the end. If you are not a fan of baseball you will still enjoy these books as the baseball team is really just the springboard for the stories as well as supplying the comment element that tie the series together. If you a baseball fan there are enough references to keep it interesting for you.
Each of these books is standalone and complete in itself. I am a little OCD so I would suggest reading them in order. She does have the first three books of the series available in a set and I know there are plans to offer two more sets of three.
Now for the disclaimers: I was given the book for a fair and honest review. I am not the normal audience for this genre as I am older and a male. I also am not a baseball fan. I found Ms. Klasky through her fantasy/paranormal Jane Madison series. I have since gone on to read pretty much everything she has available as an eBook with the exception of Glass Wright series (It is on my TBR). As you can guess from my review I am a fan of her writing and would recommend any of her works regardless of genre. I found myself forgetting these were supposed to be steamy romances and just enjoying the richness of the story and her ability to tell it in a compelling way.
