Also, the top rack is connected to the over-the-door hooks by draping the top rack (with its pencil-thin wire) over two wide hooks. The hooks are not snug nor attached in any way, so the entire contraption slides around on the door.
I tried to use this equipment in my pantry door to hold spices, bottles, pasta, etc. Unfortunately, it was a game every time I opened the door. I never knew what configuration the racks would take when the door opened. The only guarantee was that -- no matter what misshapened form the racks took -- there was bound to be something I had to immediately catch from falling.
If you don't intend to use this rack as an over-the-door rack, I think it would be useful as a set of shelves nailed into the wall. Otherwise, I do not recommend this over-the-door rack because it's highly unstable.
So this is what I did:
I used zip ties to secure the wire hooks to each half & attached a set of Command hooks to the bottom half & secured to the door so now there's no movement. I purchased some single vinyl tiles from Home Depot (the ones I got were about $0.70 ea). I cut them up to fit the shelves and VOILA!!
Through a little ingenuity & tips from others, its now perfect!! And I love that I can now see what I have.
I hung one up on the inside of my pantry door, and one on the inside of my linen closet door. It's slender enough that it does not bang into the shelves of either, but deep enough to hold plenty of items. I cleared off a whole 6' pantry shelf, and 1 1/2 linen shelves! Things are less crowded now in my little home, and easier to find.
I did need to anchor them with the screws (provided) to the door, which was a pain only because I have hollow-core doors, but that hassle was the door's fault, not the product's.
For anyone else who needs to do the same, (anchor it to a hollow-core door) you will need:
1 power drill
1 drill bit*
4 plastic wall anchors (package should say for drywall and hollow-core doors)
*(the packaging on the plastic wall anchors will tell you what size drill bit to use, but take the screws with you to fit the wall anchors to the screws)
First, hang the shelves and mark the door where the screws need to go. Then remove the shelf and pre-drill the holes into the door. Tap the wall anchors into place, re-hang the shelves, and screw in the screws.
I'm going to get a few more for closets and garage. I love being organized and being able to see things at a glance.
PS: I don't know if it makes any difference, but I didn't buy mine here, I got it at Walter Drake, but I did get all my parts, screws, over the door hooks, etc.
I was pretty impressed with how much it holds. True, I wouldn't put cans of vegetables in the racks but they hold quite a bit of boxes of cereal, noodles, etc.
The optional screws would make it very sturdy in my opinion. If they made a 14" wide model, I'd order it in a second for another door. I'm pleased. It's a good product and it's fairly inexpensive.
I think this would be a good product to add storage in other rooms as well such as a bedroom closet.

Serves its purpose but once fully loaded is a bit wobbly. Since it only attaches with the two hooks on top. Would be better if the rectangle frame was thicker and more firm. Read morePublished 13 hours ago by Fake in it

There's not a way to stop the top hangers from slipping unless you screw them in. I had hoped that could have been part of the product. Read morePublished 4 days ago by sherril l Niemann
