Being a Rock Chick (shout out to KA) I love rocker books. I'm still amazed that I haven't heard about these books until now.
The characters are well written with great dialog. The storyline is fresh. The sexual tension is incredible and the sex is HOT! Storm knows what he wants and he goes after Evelyn with everything he's got. She has a boyfriend (of 12 years) and isn't planning on changing that. Sounds similar to other books but it is not. It has just enough laughs, just enough angst, just enough alpha, just enough everything! You have to read this book!
I downloaded them with KU, but went back to purchase because I will be rereading them over and over.
She is one of the authors I will stalk. I will put her release dates for new books on my calendar and will count down the days.
While on her way to deliver a marketing pitch to some corporate bigwigs at a convention of sorts, Evelyn gets lost somewhere on a mountain road as the snow continues to pile up all around her. When she reaches for her phone to call her boyfriend to come and get her, her attention is diverted and she loses control of her car, skidding off the road. Fighting panic, she is still trying to decide what to do next when a knock on the driver's side window startles her. Although terrified, Evelyn has no choice but to accept a helping hand from this mysterious stranger who should not be out here in the middle of nowhere on a night like this. Even more terrified of the massive dog that greets her as soon as her rescuer tries to help her into his pick-up, Evelyn panics again, convinced that she will not survive the night. Indeed, they barely get a mile further up the road when a deer runs right out in front of the truck causing Storm to swerve out of the way. They skid off the road and the truck crashes into some trees. Lucky to be alive but trapped in the truck together, they have only a dog-hair covered blanket and each other to keep warm. Luckily Storm had stopped at the grocery store on his way home so they had both food and water. Sparks fly in more ways than one as this enforced proximity allows these two to get to know each other. Evelyn has no idea that this strange-looking yet handsome man is the lead guitarist for the rock band Ashes and Embers and Storm chooses not to enlighten her, enjoying the novelty of spending time with someone that doesn't want to be with him just because of who he is.
She doesn't learn the truth of his identity until they're both back home, safe and sound. Despite the fact that they come from two very different worlds, she is unable to deny that they shared a deep connection during their time together, a connection that Storm makes clear he has no intention of severing. As the attraction between them continues to grow, Evelyn is faced with some hard choices. Her twelve year relationship with her high school boyfriend has grown stagnant and loveless but it would be totally irresponsible of her to throw all of that away to take a chance on love with a hot rock star that can have any woman he wants...and has. Repeatedly.
I loved the witty, sarcastic banter between these two as well as the genuine texture of the dialogue and the character's thoughts. Rich and detailed description of the setting and the characters made this a pleasure to read, and the "raw, real and honest" dimension to all of the characters and their individual situations really tugged at my heartstrings. The intimate scenes were hot and sensual. To say that this author has true talent and a way with words is an understatement at best. I cannot wait to read more from this series and this author! Highly recommended read!
