Storm was like nothing I’ve ever read before. It was interesting and fresh.

If you are triggered by abuse you may want to skim some parts but the story is worth reading. There is a lot of action and it was definitely a page-turner. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Storm: It's a Curse to Remember by Gurpreet Kaur Sidhu is unlike any book I’ve ever read before. And I'll be honest right up front - this is both good and bad.Evan Storm suffers from recurring nightmares about a man named Derek. But these aren’t your ordinary nightmares - they’re visions from his past life, a life where he was an abusive and angry monster. When he meets his new neighbor, Shadow - who looks exactly like Samantha, the wife he abused in a former life - and learns that she is on the run from an abusive relationship, Evan realizes that helping her break free from her abusive past will reconcile Derek’s wrongdoings. Saving Shadow might mean the end of his own life, but it will break the cycle of abuse for both of them.I will admit, this book was a little hard for me to get into at first. There are graphic descriptions of abuse, and that doesn’t sit well with me. As a self-published (and therefore not professionally edited) book, some of the dialogue and wording left me reading passages twice or three times to make sure I understood what I was reading. But I powered through because the premise was really interesting.

The paranormal aspect of this book definitely pulled me through to the end. Following Evan as he tries to piece together the mistakes of his past - so they don't happen again - was a thrill. I was also drawn to Venice, Evan's clairvoyant grandmother. I wanted to know just how much her gift of sight showed her, and if she had anything to do with the Evan/Derek timeline.

While I finished the book and would give it 3.5 stars, I don't think that it's something that everyone would read. It gets very graphic sometimes, so much so that there were times I thought about not finishing it. And there were a lot of questions left unanswered - which makes sense as it's part of a series, but it didn't leave the sense of satisfaction one usually feels when finishing such a long book. I might pick up the next books as audiobooks if they're available - I feel like the story would come across better being read out loud to me.Overall, this book has so much to offer. The characters aren't flat, the premise is unique, the pace is quick, and it really was a page-turner. If you're triggered by abuse, I would recommend skimming or skipping sections of this book, but if paranormal thrillers are your thing, definitely pick this one up!Sidhu is currently writing the second book in this series and is aiming for it to be released at the beginning of 2020!I was sent a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Welcome to Lake View. An average suburb of average people where Evan Storm lives. Evan has been having horrible nightmares. Vivid, terrifying nightmares where he does things that are completely out of character for him. More terrifying is waking from that nightmare to find the object of the nightmare standing behind you.

Derek is the object of that nightmare, but why is he haunting Evan? And why do they look so much alike? Evan’s peaceful life as a school teacher is turned upside down by these nighttime visits. Derek’s mom, Venice, just happens to be a psychic who possibly could help with explaining these nightmares, but Venice has her own agenda to keep. Add in Shadow, a new neighbor with nightmares of her own.

Storm is Book One of a new series by debut author Sidhu. The combination of paranormal and thriller and secrets sounded so compelling I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one. In many ways I was rewarded with reading adventure, in other ways, not so much.

I have mixed feelings about this book. The story was interesting and kept me engaged. At times, I struggled with the wording or dialogue. The names of some of the characters and locations seemed almost comic book like. Overall, the paranormal side of things kept this book interesting enough. I wanted to know what was going to happen to Derek and Samantha. What secrets was Venice hiding? What had happened to Shadow, and why was she so familiar to Evan? The premise of the book was fabulous. I loved the ideas, it was the execution of these ideas that struggled.

Most likely I would want to follow the characters of this book through the series to see where they land. Without spoiling, this book wrapped things up a bit too neatly at the end. There are few questions that remain, nothing as sinister as how the book started. I am curious as to where Ms. Sidhu is heading with the next book. As with some other books series and first-time authors, time does improve both the story and writing. I hope that is the case with the next book in this series.

Every page of this book kept me entertained and interested. The story line is unique and different to other stories that I have heard before. Every word grips the readers, this book had grabbed my attention from the very beginning to the end. Every characters storyline kept me engaged, a story full of mysterious secrets, lies and truths waiting to be told. Storm was made more enjoyable to read because of the authors effective use of imagery through clear descriptions that make it easier for the readers to visualise, what is being told, in their minds. This book captivated me through out reading all of it. I will definitely be reading the next book of this series and am looking forward to it. Will definitely recommend this to anyone who has not yet read it. Definitely worth a read!
