Tornadoes are one of the stars of the book. But what makes the storyline are the humans. Greg is a single Dad who is also a police officer. He is to protect and serve. But Mother Nature has other plans for him. And his child. I can't say more....spoilers. But trust me, the story arc for this is brilliant. You can feel the despair, sadness and hope from Lou's writing.
Don't let this pass you by. Grab the book, read and then buy all her books. You may thank me later. :)
If I had to point out one thing I didn't actually like was that the ending was a little anti-climactic. Half the book is about the recovery after the tornado so on that note it wasn't like your average disaster movie. But I liked it enough to start reading another of Lou Cadle's novels right afterwards.
A tornado has touched down in a small Ohio town and Greg is on alert with the rest of the police to try and make sure everyone gets to shelter. But he is also the single parent of a vibrant little girl, Holly. He is torn between duty and family as time runs out and he has to react as quickly as possible.
His aunt also lives in town and is visiting her husband in a nursing home, suffering from Alzheimer's. She also must balance her concerns of her nephew and his daughter with the plight that she is in an immobile loved one.
This book was intense in its details of the power of Mother Nature and the overall grasp of such total devastation. The characters are beautifully and realistically formed to invoke a roller coaster of emotion while reading. Mr. Cadle has done an amazing job with this story and I look forward to searching out more of his books. Well done!
