My son's school recommended this set for him to listen to. I didn't want to get the whole set until I tried one so I started with this one. I would say it's good but the best. It has narration between clips of music so that is nice to hold a child's attention. It would be better if there was a book or something to follow along with. We did books with the music last year and those were so much better. We tried to listen to this while we did our art lesson and it helped him to listen to it, because I knew he would never sit still through it, but then he got really into his art and sort of just forgot to listen. So, I feel like if you have a busy boy...maybe get something with a book or something to follow along with. But its a really well made program.

My six year old loved listening to these, and we are having another listen now that she's eight. They are simple, interesting, and include samples of the composer's work. An excellent introduction to the composers.

Though I haven't listened to all of the CD's in this series which I ordered, I am very impressed with the ones I have listened to. Very enjoyable and informative, and the price couldn't be any lower!!!

Excellent value for money!Reviewed in Canada on August 12, 2011
This 'THE STORY OF ------ IN WORDS AND MUSIC" series of CDs are an excellent educational tool for music students or any one who has an interest in classical music. You learn so much from them. The narration is clear and you get a very good idea of each composer's works and life history by the time you've gone through the CD. I have them on my MP3 player and my husband and I enjoy listening to them in our car. At the end of the narration (which includes samples of the composer's most famous works), there is usually more music from them, in the case of Beethoven, they include the complete Emperor Piano Concerto which is a brilliant and spell binding piece of music. It's definitely a great buy and I highly recommend it. If I was a piano teacher, I would have a stock of these CDs for my students to purchase. What a wonderful way to learn the stories of the world's greatest composers!
