From my searching, this seemed to be one of the better options of children's Bibles. I wanted something that would portray the original messages in the accounts of Scripture, at an age appropriate level for children. I didn't want anything that took liberty with adding or taking away from the narrative.
This Bible does a fairly decent job at that, but I still feel it could have been better. There is so much that is skipped between the "stories." And many of the stories/accounts are cut short.
That aside though, the kids enjoy having me read it to them regularly and we have our own in depth discussions about anything that really happened that the stories don't detail.
Here are my top reasons for giving this book a 5-star rating:
> The stories are very condensed versions of the (f)actual Bible stories. The author has not inserted fictional text for entertainment purposes.
> The stories are kept to 1-2 pages in length with large print. The author has done an awesome job editing down to the most pertinent parts of stories that are many chapters long. Brilliant! My rambunctious three and four year old boys easily sit through stories this length and ask for more when we are done.
> The book is appropriate for a very wide range of ages. I would say at least from age 3 to 8.
> There are helpful margin notes on each story. For each story, the author lists these exercises: "Ask," which are questions to ask children to help them recall what was read; "Do," something they actually must do to illustrate a lesson related to the story topic, and "Pray," an actual prayer for them to recite. What a great way for children to learn, interact and apply what they have learned.
> For older children, there are also vocabulary words that are called out in the margins. A great format and an interesting book that children can grow with.
I will be buying this for friends and family members for years to come, I am sure. Happy reading.
I purchased this to give to my son as part of the Faith Legacy blessing we did at church. I am SO EXCITED to read this to him every day!!
It seems as though a lot of children's bibles REALLY press the God-fearing, too much so.
This one isn't too bad in that area as far as we can tell. I plan to update this review once we've read threw the good book in its entirety.
